5.0 out of 5 stars Soul searching and inspirational
Dan Zimmerman is thought provoking and soul searching.
Cosmic Patriot is accompanied by a wide variety of rhythmic styles that enhance Dan's poetic delivery. His message reminds me of Dylan, in that he causes the listened to pay full attention in fear of missing something important. Plus, lyrics are included making the puchase even more worth while.

3.0 out of 5 stars Raw Bone
I found the CD title very intriguing. The advance copy that I mistakenly ordered (no booklet art) describes his voice as all character, between Lee Hazlewood and early Tom Waits. His voice is a raw bone & takes some getting used to. However, when you do, there are shining moments. Zimmerman sounds like Arthur Brown (I am the god of hell fire) on "The Stain Remains."...

I found the CD title very intriguing. The advance copy that I mistakenly ordered (no booklet art) describes his voice as all character, between Lee Hazlewood and early Tom Waits. His voice is a raw bone & takes some getting used to. However, when you do, there are shining moments. Zimmerman sounds like Arthur Brown (I am the god of hell fire) on "The Stain Remains." "Meet me my love on my threadbare couch, don't mind these bones of mine; Look at me like you did before, love me just one more time," Dan sings with an accordion or concertina in the background like a romantic song soundtracking a Tim Burton movie. Spooky. "Secret Name" has percussion like a heartbeat with an organ pulsing like a moog, "Mother hold me in this heat, keep me in the flame when the passion is complete, I will never be the same; Sister tend the secret fire till they write my secret name on a stone so white in heaven." Although this is my introduction to Zimmerman's music, at age 60 he has a long history with albums with Subterranean Cafe and two previous solo shots. His vocal sound is unusual, but his songs are strong lyrically & melodically, blended with a powerful presence. Enjoy!
