Really bad book. Predictable, terrible dialog. Read it only for the sex scenes. Don't waste your time on the rest of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosmic Sex- A Joyfully Recommended Title, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Cosmic Sex (Planet Nerak, Book 2) (Paperback)
Kia arrives on Earth from Narek searching for her cousin Mala to take her back home. She ends up at a bar where she meets Nick Scericino. Nick is working undercover with his partner, Sam, trying to bust a drug dealer he hopes will lead them to the Russian mafia. Instead of making the bust, Nick ends up taking Kia home with him after escaping a bar room brawl and discovering Kia has nowhere else to go. When Kia begs him for sex, he has no resistance against her. But the greatest sex of his life becomes his worst nightmare when Kia tells him she is an alien.

Eventually Kia convinces Nick that she really isn't from Earth and he agrees to help her find her cousin. The more time they spend together the less they want to leave each other though. And while they're dealing with their ever growing feelings, the Russian mafia is watching them, and they think Nick and Kia have something they want.

Cosmic Sex is a highly entertaining story full of fun and romance. It's also intensely sensual and erotic. I adore Kia. She is innocent and sweet and yet very seductive and Nick is incredibly sexy and gorgeous. I really enjoyed Cosmic Sex and I Joyfully Recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Fun Read, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Cosmic Sex (Planet Nerak, Book 2) (Paperback)
Cosmic Sex is Karen's latest release. Although this is a stand alone book, it is also the second in the alien series. It is a fantastic read, highlighting Karen's ability to write hot and funny.

Kia has come from the planet Nerak to bring her cousin Mala back to their home planet. After crash landing and catching a ride Kia finds herself in a biker bar to start the search, and wondering why Mala would want to abandon everything she has known for Earth.

Nick Scericino, an undercover cop, is in the bar on a sting operation, when Kia walks through the door. She is trouble with a capital T and he can see she is in over her head in this situation. Always one for to help someone out he comes to her rescue. Now the fun begins and Nick knows he is in trouble. Lots of trouble both from his work and Kia.

This story is without a doubt a terrific read. Kia and Nick are so hot for each other you will be fanning yourself, but at the same token as Kia is learning and researching things like sex, chocolate, puppies you have a delightfully fun read. Will Kia be able to go back to her perfect, boring planet, will she find her cousin and can she give up Nick? This is a story that keeps you turning pages to see what happens next, and I highly recommend it, and if you have not read the first book Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind you have missed another great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosmic Sex Rocks, February 8, 2008
By
Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cosmic Sex (Planet Nerak, Book 2) (Paperback)
Cosmic Sex is another absolutely funny and sexy treat by Karen Kelley.

Kia from the planet Nerak has gone to earth in search of her cousin Mala. She somehow ends up in a rowdy Texas honky tonk in the middle of a drug bust. Undercover cop Nick Scericino sees a woman in danger and reacts first before thinking about the sting operation. This puts his partner and the whole operation in jeopardy.

Nick, being a good person offers Kia a place to stay for the night. He doesn't know if she is for real since she is unlike any woman he has ever met. Nick is floored when Kia comes onto him but doesn't turn her down since he is very attracted to her. After a night of searing passion Kia drops her little bombshell about being from another planet.

Slowly Nick realizes that Kia maybe telling the truth. He can't explain the gadgets she has and the things that they can do. He agrees to help her find her cousin, but didn't understand that letting her go would be too hard. In their search for Mala their actions draw the attention of some unsavory criminals.

Kia and Nick's romance is fast and furious. Watching Kia fall in love with earthly delights, mainly chocolate is a riot. As these two tumble into love will Kia still want to go back to her home planet or will her love for Nick make her stay?

Cosmic Sex is a must have. It will make you smile, laugh so many times your face will hurt. The chemistry is out of this world. It was a special treat for me to catch up with Mala and Mason and their friends from Close Encounters of the Sexy kind. Karen Kelley's book should be on every romance readers buying list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and sexy story, February 16, 2008
This review is from: Cosmic Sex (Planet Nerak, Book 2) (Paperback)
Kia is on the way to earth to bring her cousin Mala back to Nerak, because she can't understand why she would want to stay on this strange planet. At least till she meets the undercover cop Nick Scericino and blows his cover, and he knows from the first moment that Kia means trouble for him. The situation gets even more complicated when she tells him that she is from another planet and that she wants him.

COSMIC SEX is the wonderful sequel of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE SEXY KIND. The book can be read as stand-alone, but if you haven't read Mala's story you will definitely want to read it when you finish this book.

COSMIC SEX has again the typical kind of wicked humor that Ms. Kelley is so well-known for. It's so much fun to follow Kia's adventure while she is discovering our planet. A small advice for you, don't read the book when you are in public, because the people will look strange when you suddenly start laughing.

Ms. Kelley's funny science fiction books are the best that this reviewer has ever read. This story is filled with hot, erotic encounters and fast-paced action scenes.

This reviewer really hopes that there will be more stories in this series, especially because Mac's colleague is just screaming to get his own story and counterpart from NERAK.

So if you want to brighten up your day or need a good laugh, you really have to pick up this book. It's a real keeper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still funny and fun but not as good as the first book, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Cosmic Sex (Planet Nerak, Book 2) (Paperback)
I'd been looking forward to Kia's story since I finished the first Planet Nerak book, Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind. While I chuckled at Kia's introduction to Planet Earth and found Nick sexy, I think Mala's and Mason's romance resonated more with me.

I could have done with a bit more development with Nick's character and some follow-through on those Nerak gems that Kia had - especially when Nick isn't a category-type billionaire hero. On the contrary, he appeared to me to be scraping together a living as a cop. He's hoping to save enough money to open a bar and become a beach bum if he can find someone to look after the bar. Other than that, he has no other ambition and is a slob - his apartment is littered with dirty clothes and the sink full of unwashed dishes...on second thoughts, maybe Nick isn't all that sexy because if there was an epilogue, I fear Kia would be left manning the bar, washing Nick's dishes and laundry while he surfs and fishes all day, everyday.

Anyway, while Nick may not come off better when compared to Mason, the sheriff-hero from Book 1, Cosmic Sex was a fast and enjoyable read. If Karen Kelley does write a third Planet Nerak book, however, I don't think I'll buy it unless I know someone who has read Book 1 and 2 and still recommends it. This is because I don't think the new-alien-on-the-block plot device can stretch to 3 books. Already, in Book 2, there're the inevitable repetitions of Kia talking openly in public about wanting sex from Nick. Scenes like that are funny the first time, can still raise a chuckle the second but the third time? Nah.

I would also have liked to see more of Mala and Mason as well as Barton and Carol from the first book but they didn't appear until near the end. Cosmic Sex wasn't a disappointment but I did expect a little better.

4.0 out of 5 stars This was originally published as Cosmic Sex, July 24, 2009
This review is from: Earth Guys Are Easy (Paperback)
This book is light and charming - the second in the Nerek series, (#1 is Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind; #3 is Bad Boys Guide to the Galaxy) - not sure why they took a year old book and changed the title!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good fun!, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Cosmic Sex (Planet Nerak, Book 2) (Paperback)
The rather in-your-face title of this book wasn't particularly encouraging but it turned out to be a really enjoyable read. Kia is from the planet Nerak and she's travelled to earth to find her cousin Mala and return her to Nerak. After all, who wouldn't want to live on Nerak - a perfect planet with no disease, darkness, hunger... or men. However Kia's spaceship lands with a bit of a bump, damaging her locator machine to find Mala. After wandering around for a short time she finds herself in a seedy bar where a drug deal is about to go down and an undercover cop, Nick Scericino, ends up rescuing her from a dodgy biker. Nick soon realises that Kia is out of this world, in more ways than one, and agrees to help her find Mala so that she can return to Nerak. But the time they spend together with Kia learning about humanity, puppies, childbirth, chocolate, sex and more means that it might be rather harder for her to leave when the time comes than she originally thought. And with the Russian mafia targeting Nick and Kia, as well as the police Internal Affairs suspecting Nick of being up to no good, things get more and more complicated.

This book was a lighthearted and fun read with most of the enjoyment from Kia's learning about life on earth. The author was particularly good about showing the amusement of literalism in many colloquial sayings, such as "puke my guts out". Kia's attraction to chocolate, puppies and, of course, Nick, added some fun moments. The supporting cast of Sam, Nick's cop partner, Weldon the gadget geek and more gave a bit more variety to the overall character mix. The side plot with the Mafia wasn't particularly important to the overall story but the pacing was good and it was always fun to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars amusing science fiction romance, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Cosmic Sex (Planet Nerak, Book 2) (Paperback)
Paradise may be perfect, but it is boring unless you sit on the Coalition of Elders who decides what is best for everyone else. Still Kia cannot understand why her cousin Mala left Nerak for earth; more amazing she stayed there with some earthling (see CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE SEXY KIND. However, she needs to know that Mala is okay so she travels to earth to check up on her cousin.

Kia is attracted to undercover cop Nick Scericino who knew she is trouble even before she mentioned being from planet Nerak. She also tells him she wants him, which leaves the police officer bewildered but willing. He agrees to help her find Mala, but during their investigation, Kia begins to understand why Mala loves dysfunctional earth as she no longer wants to go home if Nick will have her.

The second close encounters of the first kind tale COSMIC SEX is an amusing science fiction romance starring a beleaguered, bewildered and benign cop and the female ET who turned this confident tough guy over as she proves earth guys are easy. The story line is filled with action, but like the first sexual encounter between two worlds, the novel is owned by Kia whose concepts and values are radically different than the earthling she loves. Although lacking some of the newness of the previous entry, readers will enjoy Karen Kelley fine tale as men are from earth; women are from Nerak.
