5.0 out of 5 stars Billy's Cosmic!
I have to disagree with the other review. I found this CD to be absolutely incredible. In fact I really prefer it to the new Steve Vai CD (even though I like that one too). But I really identify with the songwriting on this as much as his great bass playing. The songs are hot, the lyrics are hot, the playing is so hot - it's on fire!!!! (So Toss it on the Flame!) 3.0 out of 5 stars Could've done better...waaaaay better
Billy Sheehan...when that name comes up, the image of a bass god comes into mind. Then to top it off I can imagine him touring with Steve Vai and helping him create albums (Real Illusions: Reflection). When I first opened the album, I was anxious to see on who was helping him work his solo project. Guess what? Billy Sheehan...as much as he is a bassist he should NOT sing...

(So Toss it on the Flame!) Billy's voice is his own and I think it totally fits the tunes. I loved the CD "Compression" so much I gave out copies for Christmas that year. Now he has equally matched the first CD with "Cosmic Troubadour" which is even a step broader and wider than the first CD. The intstrumentals sometimes sound like prog - which I love. A Million Tears Ago (bonus track) is a masterpiece. All in all, a great step in a great direction. I am now looking forward to a new Niacin CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Billy's best, March 10, 2005
This review is from: Cosmic Troubadour (Audio CD)
This CD is great. Every song is fantastic and a bit different genre, but still a cohesive work. His bass playing really stands out on this CD. I think that Billy's solo stuff is really unique and does not sound like anyone else, just like his bass playing. He is true master.
I like his singing, he can sing.
I also loved Compression, but this one takes it a step further. He really cuts loose on this. If you want to hear what Billy is all about, ignore the bad review, buy this CD!
Mudbuckers rule! Praise the woofer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Billy is Back with a Vengence, March 3, 2009

I prefer this album to his Compression. Not that Compression was not good, but this album is that much better. His songs sound alot more thought out and his instrumentals are actual songs and not just solos, which i think sounds great for Mr Sheehan. Defintly buy this album if you are a Billy Sheehan Fan!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Admit It, I'd Listen To Anything Billy Does, March 6, 2005
This review is from: Cosmic Troubadour (Audio CD)
This rocks and in the end, that's all that matters. Bass monster Billy kicks it into high gear and pretty much keeps it there for the entire trip. His vocals aren't going to blow you away, his guitar licks don't match his employer, Steve Vai. It just doesn't matter. The bass lines are just insane and the album is made for playing loud. Never underestimate the value of a good time.

Need not say more... Sheehan is a bass god and cannot fail! And on this one he sings, writes and produces, plus his bass is, needless to say, flawless!
Did I mention that Sheehan rocks on the bass like no-one else? ;-)
Truly amazing work!

When I first opened the album, I was anxious to see on who was helping him work his solo project. Guess what? Billy Sheehan...as much as he is a bassist he should NOT sing or play the guitar...it's not that great and it was a huge disappointment for me. The few saving grace for this album is that he demonstrates some of his insane bass chops...
