Editorial Reviews

From the Artist
Also see books from Ram Dass, including his most noteworthy "Be Here Now" - written decades before and with a similar message to the wildly successful Eckhart Tolle title, "The Power of Now."

This is a video enhanced CD and contains a heart-warming, historic ten minute video excerpt from The Last Dance, Ram Dass' final recorded conversation with the late LSD guru, Timothy Leary.

Product Description
Ram Dass aka Richard Alpert, and the late Timothy Leary, are cultural icons for their early days of pioneering experimentation with the mind expanding powers of psychedelics like LSD. They met and worked together at Harvard, where both were later let go for their controversial explorations. Timothy Leary continued to endorse and encourage mind expansion through pharmacology while Ram Dass traveled to India and embraced eastern spiritual enlightenment with his guru Neem Karoli Baba and soon thereafter began speaking and writing books including his most noteworthy guidebook, "Be Here Now."

Ram Dass is now living on Maui and is much recovered from a massive stroke he suffered in 1997. Meanwhile, Down-under electronic DJ and performer Kriece has captured and taken some relevant, valuable dialogue from Ram Dass' earlier talks and mixed it with moving, chilled back electronica.

Not since the late Terence McKenna's "Alien Dreamtime" album in the early '90s, has enlightened spirituality flowed so well with contemporary chill-out and this time each track is separate, a manageable length and broadcast friendly. For the most part, the music dominates, without diminishing the power of Ram Dass' messages. Without being overly preachy, Ram Dass' expressive words give new meaning and interest to this energized yet inspirational musical environment, while DJ Kriece's deftly selected grooves bring new life and focus to some universal and timeless spoken truths.

As Ram Dass says, "This album represents a full circle for me. In the '60s when Tim Leary and I began exploring inner space with psychedelics, the music was always a groove that we could follow, a route to take us higher. Music was at the forefront of the expansion of consciousness and the counter culture. There was a group consciousness that evolved in some of the performances of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix and others, that was transcendent and brought a sense of unity and a feeling of deep love and joy. Later, when I made it to India, I was introduced to other music and sounds that vibrate with the cosmos, using it to get high. The music itself is the high and you just become it, like a surfer becoming one with the wave.

This collaboration, produced by Down-under DJ and mixmaster Kriece, makes this blend of music and spirituality available to a new generation. Kriece has brought together the influences of World music, chanting, electronics and spoken word. I am honored he has used words I spoke, though it is only us talking to ourselves. This mixdown of mantra and electronica merges into One Love.

As my guru said to me: 'Enjoy it All!'"

5.0 out of 5 stars Ram Dass review, August 12, 2008
By NewAgeMusic "NewAgeMusic" (Hollywood, ca usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cosmix (MP3 Download)
GROUND BREAKING!! One of the best albums i've heard this year . . . Cosmix is a rhythmic, energizing album that merges timeless wisdom with modern sounds, chants, and world instruments. it also contains a historic, heartwarming ten minute video excerpt from "The Last Dance," Ram Dass' final recorded conversation with his life-long friend, the late LSD guru, Timothy Leary, who encouraged Ram Dass to celebrate death as the next transitional stage on their journey. I HIGHLY recommend you get this album AVAILABLE here on Amazon.com, Itunes.com and CD Baby.com on CD and for MP3 download . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Grooves Chill Out, August 12, 2008
By Miss B. "bethbetty" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
I was so happy to hear of a new project from Ram Dass, so I ordered an early copy. So glad I did...I love listening to it while doing yoga, or just hanging out and dancing around with my little son.

Hearing the wisdom of Ram Dass' spoken words reminds me of his simple teachings, without feeling like I'm listening to a self help book on tape! I'm intrigued enough to want to learn more about his teachings, and have been checking it out at ramdass.org

On some tracks, the music is funky enough to energize a little bit, while others have a lite trippy, spacey feeling. I like Mantra, Stuck and Breath Inside the Breath the most; there are 10 tracks in all, PLUS it is enhanced with a 10-minute video of Ram Dass & Timothy Leary talking about their life as friends...so nice to have this for keeps.

The cover art is really cool too...this'd make a great t-shirt! I'll be looking for it on [...] later for sure :)

Overall, this is a great CD for enjoyment, as well as bridging the decades to clue your kids or grandkids in to the counter culture...the '60s meets the new millenium with Cosmix!

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychedelic trance and spiritual advice, November 7, 2008
By Bodhi Heeren (Copenhagen) - See all my reviews
Originally known as dr. Richard Alpert, the Harvard professor who got fired together with Timothy Leary for promoting the use of psychedelic substances, Ram Dass has developed into one of the most prolific and profound spiritual teachers in our time. Whereas Leary found solace in the dubious role as dope-Messias, Alpert took the more adventurous route to India, where he became a disciple of the advaita master Neem Karoli Baba.

Ever since that Ram Dass like Stanislav Grof has managed to combine psychedelic insights with a deep existential knowledge of Indian spirituality.

On this brilliant and fascinating CD, the young electronic soundsculptor Kriece has taken some of Ram Dass' earlier talks, mantras and songs - from previous CDs like "Here We All Are" and "Chord Of Love" - and put them to intelligent mindexpanding electronica and psych-trance. Reminiscent of Jim Wilson and Leary's "Beyond Life", with the difference, that Ram Dass' words are based in a lot deeper understanding of human nature and its spiritual potentials.

Rich and fullfilling this may very well turn out to be my fav CD of 2008.

Also included is a 10 min. videoclip from "The Last Dance" with Leary and Ram Dass, recorded shortly before Leary's death.
