and this book should go with it. I was not impressed at all. Basic. Enough to keep you reading to see if it gets better, only to be disappointed afterwards. Get this from library.

Somebody Grab Me A Cosmo So I Can Forget Reading This!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cosmopolitan Girls: A Novel (Paperback)
I am not sure what book the other reviewers read but "Cosmopolitan Girls" was not as good as the cover or title lead you to believe. The way this book read, I am sure each of the writers handled a different character and then tried to meet somewhere in the middle when the main characters were in chapters together. It just seemed like you were reading separate books. The storyline drifted all over the place, there was too much designer name-dropping and not enough substance. Luckily, the chapters are pretty short which is the ONLY reason I was able to finish this book. The most positive aspects of this novel are that most of the intimate scenes included condom use, which is rare in any novel; also the tips for all women from the authors at the end of the book. I'm not saying that these ladies are not good writers. I could see where they were trying to bond sisters together in a positive light. I just thought the story itself was rather weak. I would read something else from these authors just to see if they improve but I would have to check it out of the library. Too much of a risk to buy based on this first effort.

Meet the Cosmopolitan Girls: Lindsay Bradley and Charlie Thorton. Lindsay is from St. Louis, Missouri, and Charlie is from Buffalo, New York. Both move to New York City, ready to find love and success and "take the city by storm." As young, beautiful black women, both are trying to balance professional ambitions with their romantic needs and desires. When they meet by chance in a bar in the city, they "click" instantly. Each woman is comforted and inspired by the other, and they make plans to meet and talk again. They don't know it at first, but they are destined to meet each other and change each other's lives.
If you are still reading this review, you are probably thinking, "Well, that sounds a little after-school special' to me . . ." And you are right. An after-school-special for God-fearing grown women who like to have sex - but only in a good-girl way - and who enjoy sista-girl bonding, mutual affirmation, and plotting revenge. Often over an alcoholic drink. I can't knock a positive story when I see one. And this is a positive, inspiring tale. These woman have their stuff together. They are educated and ambitious. They support each other. They pursue their dreams. They -mostly - make the right decisions. But they make mistakes, too. My goodness, they are human! These women are role models . . . But still. The after-school special vibe was a little much.

Cosmos-Good for the Soul,

It was a quick easy read, but it was entertaining. It keeps you wanting to know more about the characters and what becomes of their love lives. You also need to be drinking a cosmo while reading because it makes your mouth water. I think it was a wonderful black Sex and the City substitute.

Sistahs and the City,

Cosmopolitan Girls is the charming tale of two women trying to stay afloat in the Big Apple. Lindsay is the workaholic television executive who seems to have it going on - a lucrative job, an expensive car, and chic friends. Yet the one thing Lindsay doesn't have is a loving man by her side. The men she runs into are only into self, and this woman wants a committed relationship - not a one-sided affair. Charlie is the straightforward ad writer/aspiring screenwriter. She's found the love of her life, Michael, and has accepted his baggage - namely his two children. He's spontaneous, romantic and a great lover. There's only one problem: trust. Michael has not exactly been monogamous. With only a few months until the wedding, that could be a problem if the couple plans to walk down the aisle. Lindsay and Charlie meet by chance one day, becoming fast friends, strictest confidants, and loyal allies in this game of love that's whooping their behinds. What starts as an ordinary sistah/girlfriend novel turns out to be a fun, uplifting ride. You'll enjoy the women's progression from the "lovelorn" to the "loveyourself." A great, fast read!

Can we say watered-down Cosmo?,
By LuvKisselle (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cosmopolitan Girls: A Novel (Paperback)
With Cosmopolitan Girls as a title, I was expecting for this book to be as racy, saucy, and provocative as the drink it's named after. What I got was watered-down. It was very predictable to say the least. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because some parts were fun to read...but overall, I'd say you can pass on this one.

Nice,
By Dark Aries (Maryland, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cosmopolitan Girls: A Novel (Paperback)
It was pretty good for a first novel but there's room for improvement. I like that the characters grow and learn from their mistakes and the female bonding. I like how the women know were they go wrong with the mistakes and try to better themselves. It did seem a bit preachy at times and at the end of the book they didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. Some of those life lessons is just common sense. I would recommend this novel to younger girls as oppose to grown women though. I thought that Lindsay's 2 girlfriends were very superficial and immature for their ages and I'm glad that she distanced herself from them and found a true friendship from Charlie. Charlie learned how to bond with a female, Lindsay. Nice try and you can at least give Cosmopolitan Girls a chance.

All girls need to get a copy of this book. I loved it! Cosmopolitan Girls is about the lives and friendship between two girls living and working in New York City. When they meet, each believe the other's life is better than her own but they each
get a wake up call! This story is fast, fun and emotional. I wanted to kick the video director "Troy" where it hurts the most! He is such a jerk! He is the type of man every mother should warn her daughter about! I liked that Lindsay finally learned that "Women have the power to heal each other through friendship" This is a true statement. I only wish more young women would try to look for friendship in other women instead of being jealous or putting them down.

Cosmopolitan Girls: Sex, the City and African American Women,
By Steph B. "chicprincesspetite" (NY | NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cosmopolitan Girls: A Novel (Paperback)
This book has gotten a lot of mixed reviews, but I REALLY enjoyed it. It is truly a story that is meant to uplift and remind us women that we are worth so much more than most of us give ourselves credit. "Cosmopolitan Girls", is pretty much the diaries of Lindsay and Charlie. Two small-town girls living successfully in the Big Apple. Lindsay is a Television Exec who has dreams of becoming a Producer. She is dating an accomplished video director who she thinks is "the one". Charlie on the other hand is living with her fiance and his two kids from a previous relationship. A broken heart and unfaithfulness brings these two women together one day at a club. Both of them think that the other one has it good, but they are so much more alike than they think. Together the two build an unyielding friendship and help each other out in ways that real friends should. I didn't expect to get all that I did out of "Cosmopolitan Girls". So many lessons can be learned. It is more than just a fiction novel. This is a book that will make you feel proud to be a woman.

Cosmopolitan, please,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cosmopolitan Girls: A Novel (Paperback)
What do you do when you think you have everything and realize you have nothing? Lindsay and Charlie find out the hard way when they experience life and drama in all its fullness. Lindsay, an executive and workaholic, can't seem to tell her boss no. In addition, she's living life in the fast lane, through endless parties and reckless sexual exploits. Just when she thinks she finds her Prince Charming, the entire situation blows out of control. Charlie, a writer who dreams of having a best-selling screenplay is busy preparing for her upcoming nuptials to Mr. Right - or so she thinks. Family life is important to her, and she embraces this man and his children with open arms, welcoming everything, including heartache. When the two women encounter a chance meeting at a bar while nursing their wounds, they forge a bond of friendship that eventually helps them both get on their feet and find what they are looking for: confidence within themselves. Although the story does start off very busy and somewhat confusing, COSMOPOLITAN GIRLS is guaranteed to have you reaching for your best friend or confidante, remembering the good times and how one realizes what eventually matters most.
