Book Description

April 25, 2010
In the past decade, cosplay has exploded in popularity here in the United States. Walk into any anime convention in America and you'll see fans dressing as their favorite characters from anime, manga, or video games. In 2009, photographer Ejen Chuang travelled to six anime conventions across America to capture this phenomenon. Five months were spent photographing 1,651 cosplayers from coast to coast followed by another six months of editing. The result is a hard bound coffee table book of cosplayers captured at the conventions. Through these pages one can see the many faces of Americans - of different race, background, and age all united under the love of anime

Editorial Reviews

Review

Cosplay in America is a gorgeous tribute to the people who attend anime conventions ...The layout is slick and the photos are lovely. Chuang did what I hope more people will do in the future, portrayed cosplay as art. --Liz Ohanesian (BoingBoing.net)

5.0 out of 5 stars Time for cosplayers in American to Shine!, September 11, 2010
This review is from: Cosplay in America (Hardcover)
I was at this year animefest and just so happen to meet the author of this book. After talking to him, I find out that there was no books about cosplay here in America and we have some really good cosplayers here. I want to thank him for doing this book and giving our guys chance to shine. I hope in the futue he does another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good coffee table book, September 15, 2011
This review is from: Cosplay in America (Hardcover)
Great coffee table book. For those in the know, it serves as a fun guess-who game. For those not in the know, it does exactly what a coffee table book should do: spark conversation. It's clear that a lot of work and passion went into the many photographs, and each cosplayer brings their character to life in the costume and their expressions.
