Studying cost accounting is one of the best business decisions a student can make. Why? Because success in any business -- from the smallest corner store to the largest multinational corporation -- requires the use of cost accounting principles and practices. Cost accounting provides key data to managers for planning and controlling, as well as for costing products, services, and customers. Today especially, as more and more cost accountants are being called on to become decision makers instead of data providers, our theme of "different costs for different purposes" which we stress throughout the book, is essential for a thorough and useful accounting education. By focusing on basic concepts, analyses, uses and procedures instead of procedures alone, we recognize cost accounting as a managerial tool for business strategy and implementation, and we also prepare students for the rewards and challenges facing them in the world of professional cost accounting both today and tomorrow.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BOOK IS EXCELLENT FOR STUDENTS IN INDIA., February 28, 1999
By A Customer
I HAPPEN TO READ THE BOOK IN THE INSTITUTE OF COST ACCOUNTANTS OF INDIA'S LIBRARY. THE BOOK WAS WONDERFUL. MOST OF THE PROBLEMS SET IN OUR FINAL EXAMINATIONS WERE TAKEN OR COPIED WITH MINOR VARIATIONS FROM YOUR BOOK. THEREFORE IT IS VERY USEFUL FOR STUDENTS LIKE US TO READ YOUR BOOKS AND SCORE GOOD MARKS IN THE EXAMINATION.

HOWEVER THE BOOK DOES NOT CONTAIN DETAILED SOLUTIONS. AS A RESULT WE ARE UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND FULLY THE METHODOLOGY OF SOLVING IT. AND THE PRICING IN INDIA IS VERY HIGH TO AFFORD THIS BOOK. THIS MAY BE CONSIDERED BY THE AUTHOR TO MAKE THIS BOOK AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE FOR AN AVERAGE INDIAN STUDENT.

THANKING YOU, YOURS FAITHFULLY,

M. RAGHU RAMAN

5.0 out of 5 stars must for professional accounting students around the world, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cost Accounting: A Managerial Emphasis (Hardcover)
As a chartered Accounting teacher of 12 years standing in India I must say that this is one of the most amazing works on the subject.Only a teacher of such profound knowledge as Prof Horn Gren could have written such a book.I strongly recommend CA students in India and around the world to use this book if they want to get their 'fundas' right.

3.0 out of 5 stars Accounting books are rough to begin with., February 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cost Accounting: A Managerial Emphasis (Hardcover)
I got very little out of the book - it didn't seem to focus on real-life situations. It was quite clear, but just didn't seem relevant. However, the examples/problems combined with the solution manual were quite helpful in mastering the given topics. Books by Krachey and Schindelar were a bit better.
