Cost Management: Accounting and Control emphasizes that changing conditions often require a change in cost management systems. Emphasizing this point stresses the dynamic and exciting nature of the field. By taking a systems approach -- one that first covers functional-based cost and control and then activity-based cost systems -- students understand both how to understand and manage any cost management system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Graduate Accounting ARGHHH!!!, August 3, 2001
By A Customer
Pretty good book that explains complex subject matter in an easy to understand manner. MBA students without an accounting background can easily comprehend the concepts presented. The only fault I found is that sometimes the authors get too wordy trying to make their point. One of the best accounting textbooks I've used in my educational career.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not The Best Textbook on Cost Management, November 18, 2008
I have purchased this textbook for self learning. I also have two other textbooks on the same subject (Hilton's and Bamber's). This is one is the worst of the lot. It is wordy to the point of distraction. The authors do a poor job clearly explaining concepts. For example, in the chapter dealing with cost behavior, their explanation on the methods for separating mixed costs into its respective parts using high/lo and least squares and etc. is mind numbingly confusing. I compared this chapter to my other two references and they both were clearer. Actually, Bamber's is much better then Hilton's - simple and straight forward. Sad to say but I may toss this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make sure that your buy the correct edition!!!!, January 25, 2008
A new 6th edition of Hansen has just published. This has a green/black cover with an aircraft cockpit on it (ISBN 0324559674). If you still want to buy the old 5th edition (why?), only buy the one with a black/brown cover showing people around a table. Make sure you buy the correct edition. I have just has two buyers buy the wrong edition because they didn't check the ISBN or edition details correctly.
