5.0 out of 5 stars Graduate Accounting ARGHHH!!!
Pretty good book that explains complex subject matter in an easy to understand manner. MBA students without an accounting background can easily comprehend the concepts presented. The only fault I found is that sometimes the authors get too wordy trying to make their point. One of the best accounting textbooks I've used in my educational career.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not The Best Textbook on Cost Management
I have purchased this textbook for self learning. I also have two other textbooks on the same subject (Hilton's and Bamber's). This is one is the worst of the lot. It is wordy to the point of distraction. The authors do a poor job clearly explaining concepts. For example, in the chapter dealing with cost behavior, their explanation on the methods for separating...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not The Best Textbook on Cost Management, November 18, 2008
I have purchased this textbook for self learning. I also have two other textbooks on the same subject (Hilton's and Bamber's). This is one is the worst of the lot. It is wordy to the point of distraction. The authors do a poor job clearly explaining concepts. For example, in the chapter dealing with cost behavior, their explanation on the methods for separating mixed costs into its respective parts using high/lo and least squares and etc. is mind numbingly confusing. I compared this chapter to my other two references and they both were clearer. Actually, Bamber's is much better then Hilton's - simple and straight forward. Sad to say but I may toss this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make sure that your buy the correct edition!!!!, January 25, 2008
A new 6th edition of Hansen has just published. This has a green/black cover with an aircraft cockpit on it (ISBN 0324559674). If you still want to buy the old 5th edition (why?), only buy the one with a black/brown cover showing people around a table. Make sure you buy the correct edition. I have just has two buyers buy the wrong edition because they didn't check the ISBN or edition details correctly.

3.0 out of 5 stars FOR THE PRICE, THIS BOOK SHOULD BE BETTER, March 23, 2006

This book should have been written better when you consider its expensive price tag. However, the review excercise at the end of the chapter is extremely helpful. I would recommend the book if serious improvements are made. Overall, it is not that bad.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much info., January 3, 2005

Too bad we're stuck with whatever book the professor assigns. Often reads like the authors needed to write 1,000 pages, regardless of the complexity of the material. I caught them several times referring to the same item with different terms. In-class instruction on methods will save you a ton of time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Filled With Useless Information, August 31, 2006
If you want to wade through useless babble to get to the actual cost accounting, go at it. However, you'll probably buy this book anyway if you have an unscrupulous accounting professor who received a gift basket from the publisher.

In other words, it's useless to the student. However, I'm sure its very profitable for the publisher and the authors.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed!, September 7, 2004

I was unfortunate to have had to use this textbook for two semesters. It was pure torture! Although there is learning value to this book, there are also many things that make you want to tear your hair out. My main issue is with the graphic illustrations. There are quite a few, but I have not found one that is useful in any form. Some graphs don't even label what is being shown, just a line usually. I wish my "favorite" graph could be explained in words.

Like I said, this book does also teach you about the subject so it is not all bad, but I have used a different cost management text that was much better than this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, August 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I enjoyed using this accounting book. Not only was it easy to follow, but the chapters were nice and short. Very good undergraduate accounting book and one of the best books I used all throughout college.
