The author presents some new ideas on crime and education., June 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Cost of Winning: Global Development Policies and Broken Social Contracts (Hardcover)
Numerous suggestions contained in this book would make useful public policy. He promotes fixed penalties for crime and use of bounty hunters to capture criminals that commit violent crimes as a method of reducing the incentive to commit crime. He talks about different models for doing this. This is a method likely to be implemented by a progressive community in order to reduce the crime rate.
The author suggests it becomes much easier to fix the current public education system with more community involvement once communities are made safe through use of bounty hunters. This book is a useful read.

Cosgrove presents a different view of the Soviet containment, August 22, 1998

This review is from: The Cost of Winning: Global Development Policies and Broken Social Contracts (Hardcover)
This book provides an expanded concept of Dean Acheson's "Present at the Creation." He presents details of several policies such as tax, trade and oil which were essential to defeat the Soviet Union. The second part of his book covers the impacts of those policies on the U. S. economy. Cosgrove follows that with interesting recommendations such as restructuring Congress.
