THE BOOK on Ethnic Costume and it's construction!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Costume Patterns & Designs (Hardcover)
This book is probably my most treasured volume on ethnic costume that I own. As a fiber artist, I really appreciated the effort that Max Tilke put forth to actually show construction of the ethnic costumes of the world. From those illustrations I have been able to construct several of the garments shown. This book, according to designer Zandra Rhodes was a major inspiration in her own designs. A definite "must own" for any ethnic costume ethusiast

This is THE BOOK for Ethnic Clothing!,

This review is from: Costume Patterns & Designs (Hardcover)
I 'discovered' this book about 20 years ago in my local library and have been in intense like with it ever since. When I first got into medieval re-enacting I used this book to make several garments. Decades later I still use this book for reference and inspiration in both my medieval and modern designs. The illustrations are clear and as another reviewer stated, very easy to draft patterns from. Max Tilke's attention to detail is invaluable - the seam lines are clearly denoted and special finishing/details are often highlighted. This is not a flashy photo-reference book, for that I would suggest 'The Worldwide History of Dress' by Patricia Anawalt, which would make an excellent companion book to this one. I definitely recommend this book for the ethnic clothing enthusiast!
