I am in the process of creating a cottage garden by tearing out my front lawn and replanting with mainly perrenials. The book is a pretty typical Sunset product but is excessively wordy. I would have preferred many more large pictures with text identifying the plants in the garden and far less text about history and other topics. In addition the information about annuals and perenials is well covered in other texts especially Sunset's Western Garden Book. Overall the book could have covered planning, color composition, seasons of bloom and plant relationships much more completely and left out a lot of words.
