I have waited to review this item until I could fully field test it. I think very highly of this vest. I am a geology student and rock hound and as consequence I climb around a lot as I hike. Previously I just used a strap and was always fearful I would damage my Canon Mark II 5D. I needed something that would keep my camera secure and since I carry a backpack with rock hammer at my hip, a waist holder was out of the question.
I was initially a little skeptical about the cost and was worried about getting my monies worth. Not anymore. This is money well spent, especially if you have an expensive camera.
The cotton carrier keeps the camera nice and secure with no swing, even with a big lens like the 100-400 mm zoom attached. Granted the bigger the lens the more the chest piece pushes into your upper abdomen, but with a smaller lens the pressure is negligible. I found that by clipping my chest strap on my backpack across the upper part of the carrier it helps.
Bottom line, no matter how much climbing around I do, my camera is secure and safe unless I do a faceplant.
Another great feature is the one hand release. With my right hand I can easily turn the camera 90 deg to the left and lift the camera effortlessly out of the carrier and it slides back in just as easily.
The mesh back fits comfortably under a backpack and helps in the 100+ degree weather of the southwest. All adjustments are easy to make.
One of the few products I have bought that I have taken timeout to write a review on.

First let me preface this review by stating that I have a used d200 with a kit lens (18-70) off ebay for 315$, so I am not rolling with a 1500 rig on my chest.

This thing is rock solid, the camera doesn't bother me at all with bouncing. I have been on up to three hour rides over extremely rocky terrain, nasty downhills, steep climbs, and this thing rocks! True one second one handed deployment, super fast stow, and no comfort issues. I am a 6' 2 male, of average build. The only time the camera gets in the way is off steep steps when my lens bounces off my seat from getting behind the saddle. I also put some pipe foam on my stem as It sometimes bounces off on steep climbs when I step off the bike.

It does relatively well in the heat (Tucson AZ) as it is mostly mesh, and in the riding position it has a bit of air gap under it keeping it cooler.

It is expensive, I found mine used, but I would still recommend it for sports photographers, hikers, or anyone who wants to have two hands free and carry their camera.

If you want to see some examples of the terrain check out my youtube channel, search for ggnarls.

When you consider what you are getting for $149 it seems this vest system is over priced. That being said, I just ordered a second vest for my wife. I have had mine for over a year and I can't say enough about it. It keeps the weight off you neck which is really important when out shooting all day. Most people who spend a lot of time outdoors with a camera know the feeling of a stiff neck or soar shoulders at the end of the day or following days. You will never experience that feeling again with this vest. Another important benefit is the vest keeps the camera tight to your chest and not swinging while hiking or climbing. When you bend over the camera is still safe and secure against you body, not banging on rocks or trees. The vest is very well made and will last a life time if taken care of. If you figure how many years you might be outdoors photographing and weigh that against $149 you will realize it is worth it. I have reccommended it to family members and they enjoy it as much as I do. You won't be disappointed. And as always, Amazon will gladly take it back if you should disagree with me.

I purchased this carrier for our recent trip to Italy. It has to be the best camera accesories that I've ever bought. It kept my camera (Pentax K5) readily available w/o any neck pain, chafing or worries about the camera being damaged by swinging into other people or objects. In addition, my hands were always free when not actually taking pictures. Whenever I saw other tourists holding their cameras in one or both hands while they walked or letting them swing freely from their necks I wanted to go up to them and explain how this carrier could set them free! If you're tired of missing photos b/c your camera is burried in your pack or sick of neck pain or camera damage from letting it swing from a neck strap, buy this carrier - you will not be dissapointed.

I bought both this vest and the "Cotton Carrier Light" model. Both are very well built, and the "Light" works exactly as what I expected (i.e., for lighter cameras). Unfortunately, the vest lacks the adjustment to fit a slim body, and as a result, detaching the camera from the vest becomes a two-hand operation (becase the vest will move as you try to rotate the camera to unock it).

I bought this because I needed a new solution to carrying my camera on long hiking/backpacking trips. I hike anywhere from 200-300 miles a year in Colorado. This is the best thing I bought for my camera. I use to use a black rapid sling which had my camera off to my side. The camera would always be moving all over the place and pounding my gut or hip. With the Cotton Carrier, I didn't even notice it was on me. It also made it so easy and nice to get to my camera and right to tripod if needed.

The only thing I wasn't too thrilled about was the price. I always try to compare items to something relatively close, like to all my hiking and backpacking gear. Comparing the price of the cotton carrier to my sweet hiking daypack is similiar. My daypack has way more material though. Not saying the cotton carrier has cheap material, just not much to it. That is good though since it rides under my backpack. Really no regrets once I used it...it is fantastic. Even had a few photographers on the trail ask about it and I said get one.

Another thing I would like to see is some kind of camera cover to protect it a little more from nicks or rain.
