Product Description

1 - Ravelli Full Size 10x12.3' Background Stand Complete with Carry Bag

1 - Prism 10x20' White 100% Cotton Muslin Backdrop With Carry bag

1 - Prism 10x20' Black 100% Cotton Muslin Backdrop With Carry Bag

Ravelli Backdrop Stand

The Ravelli Model ABS model background stand is 10' tall by 12.3' wide. It is comprised of two tripod stands and four 3' cross bar sections and includes a heavy duty carry bag. The four cross bar sections allow for the stand to be set up in 6', 9' or full 12' widths. The cross bar interconnects are 6", the longest on the market, providing ample support for heavier backdrops. The tripod stands use air cushioned shocks, instead of spring shocks, allowing the fully extended stands to smoothly and safely collapse to their minimum height. The material on the stand bag is very heavy duty 1680D weight ballistic nylon and the zipper is 8mm white copper metal. The stand also features large ergonomic tension screws, individual elastic straps for each cross bar sections in the bag, and end caps for the crossbar to prevent tearing of your backdrops.

Prism Backdrops

The backdrops are made by Prism and are professional muslin backdrops made from a heavier 100% cotton material. The 10X20' size (approximately 9X18.2' after shrinkage) weighs 4.6lbs. Special dyes are used to obtain well saturated colors which appear vibrant and not washed out. All sides are stitched to avoid unravelling and a 3.4" rod pocket is sewn into the top. Each muslin is folded and comes in a plastic bag to avoid moisture and stainage, is then placed in the black carry bag, and then packed in a cardboard box for shipping.

The stand is sturdy and the muslin is quality.
Nicole Yuhas
The carry bag that it comes with is nice and sturdy with a metal zipper, full padded slip compartments for the end stands and straps to hold the crossbars in place.
Dana Walker
It's worth the money and as far as I'm concerned one of the best kits around.

I didn't expect as much as I got. This is very substantial, the supports are not at all flimsy. There is very little sag, if any, in the cross pieces. You can make it shorter if you want so you don't need to use the entire width. The muslin is sufficiently heavy. The bag is solid and I did not expect to get nice bags for the muslins. Also, they don't tell you that they have sown a pocket for the tube at the top to fit through so you don't drape the muslin, you feed the tube through it. I ordered clamps which now I don't need. It has a nice Italian name, but, of course, like everything else these days, it is made in China.

I've accumulated around $10,000 in camera equipment now and I have to say that by far this is the most bang for my buck of anything I own. The bag is easily a $40-$60 bag, each cloth goes for like $50 on it's own, and the stands I would say are easily $70-$80 stands each! Then you get a crossbar too! That's assuming you bought everything separate. What I'm saying is that like everything with camera equipment, you buy an inexpensive item and you expect it to be cheap and crappy. This is not cheap and crappy, the entire thing is very high quality, you will not be disappointed. I would say that the one and only thing I would like to see is a way to arrange it so you can make the cloth go lengthwise too but there is no one who makes them that way so it's not really a complaint about this product but something I could see myself using. You know if you're doing a large group shot without everyones feet or a green screen shot where the talent is running. I'm just being picky, this thing is awesome.

For what you get here, you simply can't beat the price. No, the stands aren't as sturdy as my Photoflex stands. No, the bags for the muslins aren't super-durable. Yes, the muslins are a little thin, and will let light through if you're back lit and only using one.

But in a studio environment, none of that should matter.

Unless you're intentionally kicking the bags along the ground, they should last just fine.

The stands are in the same boat-- you won't constantly be adjusting them like you would be adjusting your lighting rig stands. You'll assemble it, then leave it until the end of the shoot, when you will put it away. Don't over-tighten the clamps and take minimal precautions to not break the knobs, and the stands should last a very long time.

As for light leakage, I'm posting a shot of the worst-case scenario: a single muslin intentionally back lit by two open windows. As you can see, the leakage is almost zero on the wall between the windows, so if you put any effort at all into cutting down back lighting (use multiple muslins, don't put the rig in front of an open window, close the drapes, etc), you should be fine.

I had no issues with my shipment-- a single box contained everything, and nothing was missing. Shipping was also very fast-- I ordered around 2AM Pacific, the order was fulfilled that morning, and the box shipped from Arizona that day.

If you're looking to build a studio rig quickly and for little money, this is your kit.

I say it with the caveat "for the price" because at around $175 for the stands, crossbars, 3 different 10x20 backgrounds, and the carry bag, you'd almost expect the materials or the stands to be flimsy or cheaply made, but they all appear well made and sturdy. They're not studio grade grip equipment by any means, but seem more than sturdy enough for the job. The stands are metal with strong molded plastic around the knob and hinge sections. The crossbar extended a full 12 feet wide with one muslin does not appear to sag at all.

The backdrop material is only slightly more sheer than I'd expected, they do a decent job of blocking out light behind them but not entirely. If you have bright light source behind them you will need to block the light or double the background. They also hold the creases from folding fairly well, so you may need to keep a steamer handy if you use this portably and will be folding the muslins. (They came folded/creased out of the box so this may not be as much of an issue after initial use.)

I use it mainly for video and have yet to take it on an actual shoot, but for an affordable, portable kit with three backdrops this can add value to any photographer or video producers kit without much expense. Once packed in the supplied bag the kit is about three feet long, as long as any other photo/video gear, and easily portable. The muslins come in their own soft pouches and travel separate from the stand bag.

I also like that I have the option to purchase the smaller 6' wide backgrounds and use a smaller section of the crossbars for smaller setups. For the price it's an excellent kit.

This set up looks and handles wonderfully. My only gripe is the green screen had a few snags but hardly visible when shooting. The support system is more sturdy than I thought it would be and very little chance to lose parts when putting together. It is so simple to put together but I highly suggest you have two people do this so you don't bend anything.

My associate and I put it up in about 3 minutes on the first attempt. The two clamps that come with it are not enough so I went to Home Depot and bought 10 two inch squeeze clamps at a dollar each. Now it is tight as a drum and looks amazing. The bag for the frame set up is very nice (heavy duty zipper and internal organizer loops).

I steamed the fabric before buying the clamps and it took it very well. There is NO shine from the fabric so I never had to correct anything. Huge plus.

I am impressed with the carrier bags for each fabric. The carrier bags actually have a window so you can see the color and stay organized. Keep in mind the entire set up in the box is around 40 plus pounds.

The overall impression this gives the client is way up there. Nothing looks cheap or jimmy rigged. I will buy more from these guys.
