Product Description

Color: Elephant Plaid | Size: Newborn

The Halo SleepSack Swaddle replaces loose blankets in the crib that can cover your baby's face and interfere with breathing. In addition to helping your baby sleep safer, it helps him sleep better, too. Its adjustable swaddle wrap immobilizes your baby's arms to prevent the "moro" or startle reflex. And, it's the only 2 in 1 adjustable swaddle that allows for swaddling arms in or arms out for baby's comfort and to ensure an easy and gentle transition to the SleepSack wearable blanket when it's time to stop swaddling. Used in over 1,000 hospitals nationwide, the Halo SleepSack Swaddle is the No.1 choice of hospitals, recommended by safety organizations and is recognized as "Hip Healthy" by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. A portion of every purchase goes to First Candle/SIDS Alliance and The Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths. Use over regular sleepwear to take the place of loose blankets. Discontinue swaddling when the baby shows signs of rolling over or breaking out of the swaddle wrap. 100% cotton muslin. Size newborn fits 6 12 pounds, size small fits 13 18 pounds.

The muslin was great for the warm summer nights.

I get they are trying to make it tight, but it's pointless if you have to adjust it anyway because of bunching and then the velcro wakes the baby up.
Melissa Rice-Harmon
She was difficult to get to sleep at night for even an hour until we found the Halo swaddles!

Great idea, but muslin and velcro don't mix. The velcro touched the muslin once, and it pulled at the fabric weave when we got her out of the swaddle. By the third use it had a hole in it.

I write this as my son is awake, again. The whole point is to keep his arms swaddled and his mouth uncovered. His hands are now free and pushing the fabric up around his mouth. We have been using this for several weeks & no matter how tight I make it, it loosens during the night. Several times during the night. We have a fleece Halo that works just fine but I think it is too hot with his pajamas overnight. I assumed the muslin would be cooler for him. This part may be true. Overall, I hate this blanket and wish I had never paid so much for such a disappointing, worthless item.

I'll start by saying that I do like the sleep sacks with the swaddle...just not this one. We bought this in the newborn size for our first child. It was much bigger than the stretchy cotton ones after it was washed and dried which I thought was great...except that it was huge on my son when he was a newborn. Part of the reason I like the Halo sleep sacks with the swaddle was to avoid swaddling the hips (to avoid contributing to hip dysplasia), but when he was a tiny newborn his hips would also have to be swaddled.

Now that he's bigger (9 weeks), his hips would not have to be swaddled and I wouldn't mind that it didn't fit right away- except that because the material it is made out of is not stretchy, when he wiggles his arms, the sleep sack rides up over his face. Yesterday when we woke up, the entire arm swaddle was pulled up to his forehead- exactly what we were trying to avoid by having the sleepsack! Yes, he can be swaddled with his arms out now as obviously this is not safe, but when you do this, you are again swaddling his hips in. This has not been an issue with the stretchy, cotton sleepsacks.

Also, the muslin material over the arm swaddle also has a thicker fabric on it so that the velcro can adhere to it, making the muslin not actually a light and airy fabric.

Overall, I wish I had just ordered the one without the arm swaddle as it turned out to be not only non-functional, but dangerous.

We bought this for my son thinking it would be perfect for transitioning him from a swaddle. We loved that it was light weight and could be used as a sleep sack once past swaddling. After using it for a week we will only be using it as a sleep sack as the swaddle aspect of it is dangerous! I bought the correct size for my son's weight and height. I adjust the swaddle part to wrap at and angle instead of straight across and yet it still bunches up. Last night I found the swaddle part over my son's entire face! That is very disturbing to me and luckily he was still in the bassinet next to my bed so I was able to hear him squirming to get it off his face. I hate to think of what would have happened if I didn't catch this in time. Prior to this incident, I would have to adjust the straps numerous times throughout the night because the fabric would bunch up on the back of his neck, making him extremely hot. The hard part about adjusting it is the super loud and strong velcro used for swaddling. I get they are trying to make it tight, but it's pointless if you have to adjust it anyway because of bunching and then the velcro wakes the baby up. Even pulled tightly, my son could still get an arm up through the top or would have his hands out the bottom. I think this would be a better product had they attached the swaddle part lower down somehow instead of at the top where it will just slide up. Perhaps attaching under the arms somehow? It makes me sad because I had such high hopes for this, but am terrified to use it now.

Hi Melissa, HALO here. It sounds like your baby is ready to transition from swaddling. Pediatricians recommend and we also advise that swaddling be discontinued when baby shows signs of rolling over or breaking free from the swaddle.  This is a typical development stage for babies, that is natural that they reach round 4 months of age.  Have you tried swaddling your baby with his arms out?  Swaddling arms out will give him the snug feeling of the swaddle, but also allow him to move his arms if he wishes and prevent the bunching you describe.  I hope this helps.

We really like the sleepsack. The cotton muslin is nice and light, but that also means that our squirmy little one can get it twisted, or get arms free more easily than the thicker fabric sacks.

My wife and I have a love/hate relationship with the fabric of the sleepsack. We love it because it's very breathable and soft, but we hate it for the same reason. This is because it's not stretchy like the cotton, thus making it hard to get tight enough to keep their arms/hands out of their face. We were skeptical after receiving and washing, but tried it for a couple weeks anyways. Nope, it is going in the trash as soon as the new cotton one gets here! My wife specifically chose this sleepsack for its fabric and color/pattern. Had we known it would allow our baby to get his hands free or have it completely bunched up around his neck, and often times also covering his mouth and nose, we would have never purchased it. I will also add that the top wing with the Velcro has no fabric between the muslin fabric and the Velcro. This has caused the Velcro to pull away and has begun to create holes in the muslin fabric. For the money, it's cheaply made, but furthermore, for the safety of your child, it's not worth the risk. I will never buy another muslin sleepsack again.

We tried all kinds of options for night time "pajamas" for our preemie baby. She was difficult to get to sleep at night for even an hour until we found the Halo swaddles! These are all she will sleep in. Currently she is using the cotton swaddles, and they are a little heavier for the colder weather. I bought the muslin with the summer months in mind as she will only sleep if she is securely swaddled, and the cotton i feel will be too heavy for the southern heat. The material pattern is darling, and the feel and weight of the fabric is perfect for warmer months, soft and lightweight.
