Naga, the sacred snake who protected Buddha, coils in sinuous gold around stylized lotus blossoms. Inspired by phra bot tapestries featuring the image of Buddha, Thanachai Maneewan creates a beautiful wall hanging. Phra bot were often carried by travelers. Maneewan paints the elegant motifs in the ancient lai rod nam technique. He works with acrylics and golden powder on Indian hemp and sews it to a cotton border. The piece is displayed on turned rods of rain tree wood. NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, searches the world to work directly with the finest artisan designers.
