Editorial Reviews

Courteney Cox talks about the show's commentary on life after divorce.

This William S. Paley Television Festival live event honors Cougar Town, a comedy series about a recently divorced woman who re-enters the dating pool while dealing with her teen-aged son and friends.

John Griffiths (TV critic, Us Weekly) moderates the following panelists: series creators/executive producers Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel; executive producer/cast member Courteney Cox (Jules Cobb); and cast members Brian Van Holt (Bobby Cobb), Ian Gomez (Andy Torres), Christa Miller (Ellie Torres), Josh Hopkins (Grayson Ellis), and Dan Byrd (Travis Cobb).

The panelists touch on such topics as: if Cox had fears about playing a character in her forties; finding a balance between family-based humor and "naughty" jokes; and how sitcoms have changed since Friends went off the air in 2004.

Questions from the audience then lead to a discussion of the following topics among others: if the show sends a positive message to older, divorced women and if Cox thinks her personality is more like Jules or Monica Geller (from Friends).

I've been a huge Scrubs fan for years, but when Cougar Town first started I only heard bad things about it, so I didn't watch...until a friend of mine bought me this DVD because she knew I loved Bill Lawrence.

No lie, this panel discussion turned me into a Cougar Town devotee! Before you go all hater, hear me out. Watching Courtney Cox, Christa Miller, and Bill Lawrence talk about the show and how it quickly evolved from something cliché into something amazing convinced me to give it a second chance. Even from this DVD you can tell how much they love the show, but more importantly how much they love each other!

It was so funny to hear Bill Lawrence make fun of Courtney during the questions, but at the same time really explain what they are going for with Cougar Town - showing the importance of adult friendship. I would never have gotten interested in the show if it wasn't for the Paley Center, so I guess I owe them a big thanks.

It was fun but was disappointed that Busy Phillips was not there. Enjoyed the banter between the actors and the creator. Was surprised at how quiet some of the stars were.

This comes off as pretty amateurish as the camera is way too far behind when something happens and you miss a lot of comments with the mikes they provide but the topper is the host who has no sense of what to ask or when to let something go or follow up on other things....miserable. Could have been better in more capable hands.

This was great. I had watched clips on Youtube, but I'm glad I bought it because I had missed big sections of it. Very fun and it's great to see their full personalities. Only disappointment is that Busy wasn't there.

Great buy, love seeing the cast interact outside of the set. You can tell they are all friends, which I like. Plus, they are all so smart and hysterical that I had to watch it over and over bc I kept missing things from laughing!
I recommend to all CT fans
