This is Manilow's best. I would love to know how the song was written. Did Manilow play the chord progressions for the beginning and ask the song writer to write the song around them? It seems logical because the entire song is within those chords. Manilow is a very good musician and on this cut the vocal is perfect in the way he attacks it. Look for the vocal and instrumental stages of the orchestration: first moving, then passionate, and finally powerful; the chords still driving as they fade. One of my favorites.

I know the chord progressions are from a classical piece - but I can't remember which one.

Spirit move me every time I'm near you
Whirling like a cyclone in my mind
Sweet Melissa, angel of my lifetime
Answer to all answers I can find

Baby, I love you, come, come, come into my arms
Let me know the wonder of all of you
Baby, I want you now, now, now, and hold on fast
Could this be the magic at last?

Lady, take me high upon a hillside
High up where the stallion meets the sun
I could love you, build my world around you
Never leave you till my life is done

Baby, I love you, come, come, come into my arms
Let me know the wonder of all of you
And baby, I want you now, now, oh, now, oh now and hold on fast
Could this be the magic at last?

Could it be magic?
Come, c'mon, c'mon, come oh-oh come into my arms
Oh, let me know the wonder of all of you, all of you
Baby, I want you now, now, oh now, oh now and hold on fast
Oh, could this be the magic at last?
Could it be magic?

Come, c'mon, c'mon, come oh-oh come into my arms
Oh, let me know the wonder of all of you
Baby, I want you now, now, oh now, oh now and hold on fast
Oh, could this be the magic at last?
Could it be magic?

I don't know anyone who actually hates a Barry Manilow song. There were several years, growing up in New York in the 70's where you couldn't go anywhere without hearing Manilow, or Barry White or Streisand or Stevie Wonder. Their work crossed boundaries and Manilow's repertoire of ballads is without equal. From Weekend in New England, to Mandy to Looks Like We Made It to Ready To Take A Chance to this gem, Could It Be Magic is without equal.

I own several Manilow greatest hits, including the Ultimate Manilow cd, I just bought this song because I couldn't get it out of my head, so to appease my sentimentality I keep this one in my personal, greatest hits cue.
