Book Description

May 1, 2003 Arabesque
Jacqueline (Jake) McKenna inherits custody of her six-year-old niece, Dani, when her father dies. Jake has always been a free spirit, but now she is forced to settle down for Dani's sake--which includes getting a steady job. But Jake finds a sexy new boss is one of the perks of her newfound employment. Eamon Fitzgerald has always been the responsible one of the two Fitzgerald brothers. He's got his hands full just trying to keep his younger sibling in check and to salvage his family's magazine from financial ruin. Neither he nor Jake has time for any distractions, yet they can't keep from distracting each other. Can a free-spirit and a stick-in-the mud find true love? Maybe with a little magic!

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

When Dan McKenna died in a car wreck, Jake McKenna lost her stepbrother and her freelance career, since she will now be raising six-year-old Dani. She ends up at Ebony Man magazine, as does Eamon Fitzgerald. Formerly a prominent Boston attorney, he has returned to New York to run the magazine. When Jake collapses with appendicitis after arriving to pick up Dani at the company day-care facility, Eamon rushes her to the hospital and later takes her to his home to recuperate. But before they can get involved, Jake needs to learn to trust again after the treachery of a previous fiance who was banking on her inheriting money from her grandmother, a famous artist, and Eamon needs to come to terms with the deaths of the wife he never loved and the child he had loved as his own. Savoy's compelling romance with its prickly but good-to-the-core protagonists and delightful secondary characters will keep readers enthralled, and eagerly anticipating the forthcoming sequel. More About the Author

Native New Yorker Deirdre Savoy spent her summers on the shores of Martha's Vineyard, soaking up the sun and scribbling in one of her many notebooks. It was there that she first started writing romance as a teenager. The island proved to be the perfect setting for her first novel, SPELLBOUND, published by BET/Arabesque books in 1999. SPELLBOUND received rave reviews and earned her the distinction of the first Rising Star author of Romance in Color and was voted their Best New Author of 1999. Deirdre also won the first annual Emma award for Favorite New Author, presented at the 2001 Romance Slam Jam in Orlando, Florida.

Deirdre's second and third books, ALWAYS (2000) and it's sequel ONCE AND AGAIN (2001), were chosen as selections for the Black Expressions Book Club. MIDNIGHT MAGIC, the third book in the Thorne family saga was a 2001 Holiday release.

Deirdre's fifth book, HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO, was published in September 2002. HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO features fictional hero, NYPD detective Adam Wexler and real-life hero firefighter Paul Haney, the winner of the 2001 Arabesque Man Contest on the cover. HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO, was also selected by Black Expressions and was featured on the cover of their holiday 2002 brochure.

In April 2003, Deirdre's first novella, Fairy Godfather was published in her first hardcover title, TO MOM WITH LOVE, a Mother's Day anthology. COULD IT BE MAGIC? Deirdre's sixth book was published in May 2003 to rave reviews, including the Gold Plug Award from The Romance Reader's Connection.

In June 2004, Deirdre's novel, LADY IN RED, served as the lead off title in BET's Sizzling Sands summer series. Other participants in the series included Donna Hill, Gwynne Forster and Sandra Kitt.

This year, Deirdre will release two titles: LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES, a follow-up to her popular Could It Be Magic? and BODY OF TRUTH, the first in a trilogy of books about three Bronx detective brothers.

Deirdre is the president of Authors Supporting Authors Positively (ASAP) and the founder of the Writer's Co-op writer's group. She lectures on such topics as Getting Your Writing Career Started, Taking Your Writing to the Next Level, and other subjects related to the craft of writing. She is listed in the American and International Authors and Writers Who's Who, as well as the Dictionary of International Biography.
Deirdre lives in Bronx, New York with her husband of 10-plus years and their two children. In her spare time she enjoys reading, dancing, calligraphy and "wicked" crossword puzzles.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars! The DLNA, August 26, 2003
This review is from: Could it Be Magic? (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Words can not express how delighted I was to finally get my personal copy of Could It Be Magic. There's just something about Deirdre's writing style that I really enjoy. Deirdre Savoy is not only a high quality writer, but most looked up to by writers around the world. I look forward to Mrs. Savoy's ASAP Tour, and tips on creating a winning novel. Holding Out For A Hero was just as fun to read. I highly prefer to read Mrs. Savoy's books. They are warm, inspirational and well written. She's done it again with Could It Be Magic, and I look forward to her next project. I wonder what James Lisbon from AMAG will think when I send him a personal copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, May 20, 2003

I have to agree with the other review, that the chemistry was a bit tame or conservative, but I think it picked up as the story continued. This book is not my favorite of Ms. Savoy's but still very good and better than most other books I have read. I would recommend this book, and highly recommend all of Deirdre Savoy's other books, she is a great writer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book as espected from Ms. Savoy, April 28, 2003
This review is from: Could it Be Magic? (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although I didn't think this book was as great a read and had as much romance as Always and Midnight Magic, the book is still a good read. The heroine Jake is strong, outgoing, and a real extrovert and raising her brother's child Dani (who is quite a character herself). The hero Eamon is the exact opposite of Jake. But of course you know what they say about opposites. The book is fast paced and definitely has a few twists and turns. However the romance and chemistry between the main characters was a bit conservative or maybe I was just expecting the chemistry of Mike and Jenny from the book Always. Anyway, the book is definitely worth buying as are all of Ms. Savoy's works.
