5.0 out of 5 stars It's all about the B - sides
For those of you who think this is new stuff - this ISN'T new stuff. "Eclipse" and "Motion Isn't Meaning" are tracks that were left off of The Artist In The Ambulance - "Eclipse" is easily better than most of the songs that were put on The Artist In The Ambulance. 3.0 out of 5 stars A B-Side Collection, If Ever There Was One
If the live tracks weren't good, I'd be upset by their inclusion. But most of these songs are really good. The Eleanor Rigby cover alone warrants purchase of this release. Just don't expect too much from each track. After all, it is meant to be a B-side collection.

"Eleanor Rigby" and "Send Me an Angel" are covers, and they were recorded a while ago. "That Hideous Strength" is a track that wasn't put on The Illusion Of Safety - it kicks serious ass and should have been put on the cd. The different version of "So Strange I Remember You" is pretty good (VERY different though - a lot of keyboard usage). The cd also has live acoustic versions of a couple songs from TAITA. The acoustic version of their song "The Artist In The Ambulance" is really good. They change it up a little bit. I think I like it better than the electric verion. I don't think I can get tired of this cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thrice Just Keep On Getting Better, May 11, 2005
This review is from: If We Could Only See Us Now (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
Review by Cory Rennison:

Thrice is a band that can always take someone by surprise. Progression has always seemed to be a key factor for what has become one of Island Records most successful bands. Incase you couldn't get enough Thrice in your life; they've released their first DVD for everyone's viewing pleasure. Even if you hate this band, fans of band documentaries are about to be blown away.

If We Could Only See Us Now isn't just a little teaser for Thrice's CDs and/or live shows. There's tons of work put into this documentary. Footage of everything from the band's first show, recording their first album, selling CDs out of the back of their cars, scoring a record deal, dealing with life on the road, and so much more can be found on this DVD. The band's personal reflection of how they got where they are today is an incredibly interesting and inspirational story. If the documentary isn't enough for you, there are a slew of extras such as Thrice music videos and live performances.

Packaged with the DVD is a bonus CD-EP which featuring 9 tracks consisting of a couple new songs, live recordings, b-sides, and previously released material from compilation albums. It serves as a nice collection of songs for diehard Thrice fans that might not have heard the material, but being as inconsistent as it is, it's not a very good introduction to people who haven't heard the band previously.

Current fans of Thrice will love every single bit of this DVD/CD package. If you could care less about Thrice, you should still borrow the DVD from a friend that might own it for the sake of seeing a band documentary so beautifully pieced together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not new but still great, May 6, 2005
This review is from: If We Could Only See Us Now (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
As most rock fans know, THRICE has swept the globe over the past few years with a style that is devoid of labeling. They have created music that would fall into a plethora of categories like post hardcore, emo, metalcore and melodic metal yet their fans still come back time and again for more of this diverse music. As a part treat and part self-indulgence, THRICE release a CD/DVD package with previously unreleased music, live cuts and covers that haven't seen a pressing. Fans of THRICE should already have their hands on this and if they don't...they will soon. You won't hear anything "new" or from their upcoming album but just same, you can't be unhappy or unimpressed with either their acoustical version of "Stare at the Sun" or the audacious covers of the BEATLES "Eleanor Rigby" and insert name here "Send Me an Angel." You probably never knew the BEATLES could sound to tough. Be aware though, there are only nine songs on the CD so don't look for anything too grand. The DVD by itself is well worth your hard earned cash. It really was a comprehensive representation of who they are, what they do and it also allows you to gain insight into their lives. The live cuts on the disc are also well-rounded and moderately well produced. The long and short of is; the fans of THRICE will love it while those who haven't heard of them before (which is a small group who probably live in a cave) would benefit from picking up either "The Illusion of Safety" or "The Identity Crisis."

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff, May 25, 2006

Considering that this isn't a full album and that it has b-sides (tracks that weren't good enough to make it to full-length albums or just didn't fit, for those of you who didn't know what that meant), covers, and live music it's a really good album. Plus the movie that comes with it is just awesome. You "get to know" the band better through it, and it's just cool all around. I bought it and didn't regret it, I even lost it and can't ever watch it again or listen to the songs, but I still don't regret buying it. If you're a hard-core Thrice fan, such as myself, then you'll enjoy this a lot. If you're a luke-warm fan, this could still be your favorite band movie. If you have the money, and all other Thrice albums then get it. If you're trying to decide between this and any of their full-length albums, get those instead.

Hope that was helpful.

P.S.
I would just like to say to all of the people bickering about whether or not Thrice is a Christian band. Why does it matter? They make great music and that's all we need to know. If you would like to read into their music in a Christian way, then by all means do. But music is poetry, and poetry has infinite meanings, which vary depending on the listener. Basically believe what you will, but don't push it on other people because it doesn't necessarily mean the same thing to everyone. Just my two cents...

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting Intimate with Thrice, July 14, 2006
This review is from: If We Could Only See Us Now (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
If you loved their album Artist in the Ambulance and/or a Thrice fan, this is an AWEOSOME CD to get.

There are two CDs included in this product.

First, there is an audio CD that has nine songs including four remixes from their previous songs (three from Artist in the Ambulance and one from Illusion of Safety).

But the second CD, the DVD, is what I want to go into detail since I didn't really notice any previous reviews mentioning this. It contains a rough two hour journey from when Dustin meets Teppei in high school to the band's big break into the mainstream. I'm disappointed that the band never released any concert DVDs, but this certainly makes up for it to see them narrate their journey and the members of Thrice goofing off and having fun.

Also, the DVD includes three music videos such as "Stare at the Sun."

In general, Thrice is one of the best rock bands with their rocking beats that hits you right on the heart and thought-provoking lyrics that strikes you on the mind.

This is a perfect companion to enjoy along with The Artist in the Ambulance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best way to truly see the identity of thrice!!!!, April 6, 2005
This review is from: If We Could Only See Us Now (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
This DVD/CD combo is amazing!!! I say this because it gives you awesome insite on what Dustin, Teppei, Ed and Riley were like as kids, bandmates and their touring. The rare tracks are outstanding because the "stare at the sun" (acoustic) is (in my opinion) alot better than the one on "Artist in the Ambulance". Some of the things you get to see on the DVD are them acting like idiots and doing stupid things to Riley hurting his back with his luggage and playing concerts and screaming in pain while he is drumming. THIS IS A WELL DESERVED 5 OUT OF 5!!!!! CAN'T WAIT TILL AUGUST 20TH FOR THE NEW ALBUM!!!!

This is a great cd/dvd from an amazing band. The dvd gives you a thorough background on Thrice and insight from the band and those who know the band well. The cd is amazing as well. I was blown away by the acoustic version of "Stare at the Sun". It wasn't always one of my favorite songs, but now I look at it in a new light.

My only criticism is that I wish they had stated what venues they were playing on the videos of live performances. Oh well.

5.0 out of 5 stars KEEP THEM COMING!, April 7, 2005
This review is from: If We Could Only See Us Now (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
Thrice was not trying to put a new album out it was merely something for the fans to enjoy from the unreleased tracks and acoustic versions to the dvd that gives you all the info a true thrice fan deserves and wants to have. I personally enjoyed the dvd but if your not a fan you might think different although the cd is a great one for the collections to anyone who actually appreciates a good hardcore band. THIS COMBO ROCKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars An look into thrice, March 29, 2005

This review is from: If We Could Only See Us Now (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
Being a long time thrice fan, this dvd was a must get, so I preordered it. A lot of times dvds that are put together by a bands record company can be really low budget, cheap, and pretty much a rip off. But this dvd i assume was pushed by the band. It shows a lot of them and how they moved foward to the point they are currently at now. There is a lot of old clips from their first show to interviews with the band telling their story and those who came along on the ride that have helped them to this day. It talks about touring from the US warped tour to starting to gain new fans back in Europe. The dvd is over 100minutes and it was really entertaining to watch and there were many moments where i just laughed out at was shown on the DVD.

The cd is also nice, but you should really buy it for the DVD as the cd is more of some live stuff/other versions so it's not really new.
