Excellent analysis of standard medical practice, and specific advice for specific symptoms,
By Abel (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Could Your Doctor Be Wrong? (Hardcover)
Excellent book, riveting from the first page (you'll love the account of the patient who thought he was Julius Caesar). Dr. Goldstein doesn't waste time getting to the point, and after a short analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of standard medical practice in the USA, most of the book is detailed discussion of various symptoms that are often not treated properly, and specific advice for patients. This book is written for patients, and patients like me will love it, but so many doctors could benefit so much from it too.He covers headaches, chronic fatigue, stomach pain, sleep problems, chest pain, chronic pain, senility/dementia, PMS, gastric problems, impotence, prostate problems, asthma, nose & throat problems, Lyme disease, mood disorders, and children with tics, bedwetting, conduct disorder, hyperactivity, depression, and anxiety. This is not a book that espouses "alternative therapy"--many or most of the suggested treatments are pharmaceuticals, but Dr. Goldstein also offers advice regarding diet, sleep habits, posture, and exercises tailored to particular symptoms. He is an independent thinker--I can say from personal experience that some of his pharmaceutical treatments are unorthodox but effective! Note that this hardcover is the same book as the paperback, "Symptoms & Solutions". |
