Book Description

The beginning of the Coulson Empire, 1918:

Mary Ellen's father didn't trade her for a house-exactly. Marrying the wealthy and handsome Randall Coulson is not something Mary Ellen wants to do, but being the obedient daughter she agrees to the marriage.

Randall Coulson wants Mary Ellen for one reason-to give him sons. He has no desire to form a bond of love or friendship with his young bride. His own heart is already taken.

A bittersweet story of love, lies and family secrets, taking place during a turbulent period of American history, when the perception of women and their role in society changed in one woman's lifetime.

Coulson's Wife (Book 1)
Coulson's Crucible (Book 2)
Coulson's Lessons (Book 3)
Coulson's Secret (Book 4)
Coulson's Reckoning (Book 5)

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Money December 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I haven't found a book in quite some time that held my interest enough that I could read it in one sitting. This book did it! It was a perfect book for a cold afternoon in front of the fire place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story November 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this story. I am not a huge fan of books that are set back in the day, but this story held my interest from the first chapter. It was heartbreaking that the main character was forced to marry Mr. Coulson, but in the end I grew to love his character. I think the author did a beautiful job making her characters come to life and I highly recommend reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bitter sweet story March 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had this book downloaded in my Kindle for a while but kept pushing it behind other books I have. I'm so glad I finally read it because it's one of the best books I have read for a while. The author described and developed the characters from the beginning to give the readers a good background for the succeeding stories (The Coulson series) which I will be reading. I especially loved reading Mary Ellen's letters to William. Their love story broke my heart that I literally felt the pain. I loved the ending and I'm happy with it. I recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars well then... November 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm actually giving this book 3.5 stars...I'm not sure if I just like it or really liked it. This is not a happy ever after book. I was so sad at the beginning of the book young Mary Ellen being forced to marry a man she doesn't know or love. I know that these things happened but it's still not right. My heart broke for her, even more when she falls in love with her husbands best friend. I kept hoping that the two would get there happy ending but that's not what happened. I shed quiet a few tears while reading this book but I couldn't bring myself to put it down. It was well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner! November 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book! I wouldn't call it sad, but very real, especially for the era. Enjoyed the historical references also.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Very Strange Relationship January 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mary Ellen is a strong character throughout, however little growth is apparent in any of the characters. While the writing is pretty good, I found the story line a bit boring, with little true resolution. Since I have this thing about always finishing a book I start... I will not attempt the next "Coulton" novel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Immoral love story October 27, 2014

Book is well written. I did not like the immorality in the book. It does not make for happy upbeat reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tami's thoughts December 26, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
While reading about other people's reviews on this book I thought I would not like it but was willing to give it a shot because they said with different they also couldn't put it down so now I'm intrigued to give it a try and started to read at bedtime and thought I would read a hour or so and when my husband alarm went off for work my only thought was thank goodness I don't have to be up. So with that said so worth the read just make sure you have the time because everything else is forgotten while reading this book.

It is entertaining but simple. Several typos in the book. I recommend it as a very light but fun summer book.
