This review is from: Council Of Fire (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
Lisa Garza wants to clear her father's name. He is accused of stealing a dagger from the Navajo people and then committing suicide. Hunter Blueeyes is a member of the Brotherhood of Warriors and has been selected by the Council to recover the dagger. Hunter has an obligation to the Brotherhood, but he also owes a debt of honor to Lisa's father. Will Lisa and Hunter be able to find the missing dagger and clear her father's name?
Aimee Thurlo's tales about the Navajo people are always a pleasure to read, and COUNCIL OF FIRE was no exception. I have to admit, however, that I kept waiting for Ella Clah (from her mystery series) to step in and assist Lisa and Hunter! Once I got past that, the storyline was action packed and entertaining. Aimee Thurlo consistently finds different approaches to her stories that open up new vistas of understanding of the Navajo people. Her thoughtful and sensitive descriptions of some of the cultural differences are always enlightening and make me eager to learn more. Lisa is a bit different from many of Aimee Thurlo's characters. While her steadfastness and determination are unquestionable, her physical body sometimes fails her due to her asthma. Despite this, Lisa shows true grit and her persistence in trying to clear her father's name is nothing short of admirable. COUNCIL OF FIRE continues the tradition of great storytelling that Ms. Thurlo has already established. Her creation of the Brotherhood of Warriors has a lot of potential for future stories and I hope that we get to see more of the inner workings of the Brotherhood. COUNCIL OF FIRE is a quick and engaging read and well worth reading. COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES

This is the first book in Aimee's "Brotherhood of Warriors" series with three more to follow so far.John Garza was a professor of antiquities at the university and had in his possession an antique obsidian dagger which was considered to be sacred by the Navajo. When he "returned" it to the Navajo they found out that it was a copy and that he had kept the real thing. Then he supposedly committed suicide and the real dagger was missing. Now the Navajo selected Hunter Blueeyes to be the one to recover the dagger and return it to the tribe. In the mean time Lisa Garza~John's daughter~was determined to find the real dagger and also prove that her father had intended to return it but had been killed before he could. And that he in fact had been killed before he could. She had sent a message to Hunter asking for his help to find the dagger. Her father had left her a riddle as to where the dagger was but she was having trouble figuring it out and was in danger herself. |
