WOW- This is a great book, beautiful cover, great info. A MUST HAVE for anyone working in Maternal/Child Health. Even after working with breastfeeding women for years, there's still so much more to learn, and this book really does cover IT ALL. It is also A MUST HAVE for anyone taking the IBCLC exam! Very helpful.

This book is very easy to use. The format makes it simple to review and apply in practice. Very handy to have in your 'tool box'.

This book was a wonderful compliment to the course I took. Keep in mind that it is a textbook though so perhaps too dense if you are only looking for light before bed reading.

Worth its weight in gold. Complete and rich of details. It is a fundamental text for those who already have a basis on lactation physiology and want to learn more about consultant profession. I don't give it five stars because it doesn't contain any special chapters on Brazil's situation on breastfeeding and laws about it.

Rather than being a dry, academic text book about human lactation, this book focuses on the process of consulting with a nursing mother.
It does indeed contain plenty of scientific research with thorough citations, and makes it relevant to practice. I especially like that it also allows room for the "art" of breastfeeding; for example mentioning that while indeed there are basic guidelines for manual expression, "Encourage mothers to experiment with various hand positions until they find what works best for them. There is no one correct way for this or may other techniques. Honor individual choices . . ." Many useful appendices. Recommended. Some room for improvement: Appendix G, "Baby Feeding Requirements," lacks units for "required milk;" ounces can only be assumed. Reference for this chart is 1990 in this 2005 edition. -------------- Add on review: Now I have the 2010 5th edition too. At the time of writing this it is cheaper than the 2005 4th edition on Amazon! |
