Although little research has been specifically directed at retrospective treatment intervention with adult survivors, its importance is beginning to be recognized. "Counselling Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse" examines the theories which attempt to account for the occurrence of child sexual abuse, explains the traumatic impact of child sexual abuse, and looks at the ways in which these effects can be ameliorated and the adult healed. Treatment techniques and the role of the counsellor in employing these techniques are also discussed in such a way that the counsellor can make use of the book not only as a review of current theory, but also as a practical handbook for use with clients who may be adult survivors of child sexual abuse.

About the Author
Christiane Sanderson is a lecturer in Psychology at London University, Birkbeck College, and Consultant in the School of Psychology and Therapeutic Studies, University of Surrey, Roehampton. With 15 years' experience working in the child sexual abuse field, she has run workshops for parents, teachers, social workers, nurses, therapists and counsellors to increase knowledge and awareness of CSA. She is the author of The Seduction of Children, also published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.

I was looking for a well-rounded, comprehensive guide to treatment of adults with childhood sexual assault or CSA and I found it in "Counselling Adult Survivors". She speaks with authority, humanity and compassion. I am using this book along with SAMSHA Treatment Improvement Protocol Series 36 or TIP 36 as the informational backbone of a presentation I am giving to a group of chemical dependency professionals this month. I will recommend this book to the group if they are looking for a strong reference on the topic of treatment of adult survivors of CSA.
