This review is from: Count Basie: Sound of Swing (DVD)
For anyone who would like to hear more Freddy Green, the great guitar master who played with Basie practically from the beginning to the end -- this is the the DVD to own. Ralph Gleason is the host of this NET production but stays pretty much out of the way and lets Basie in this wonderful quartet setting just do what Basie does best. Green gets his best solo on Twenty Minutes after Three, but he is there all the time (with all the time). A few great shots of him playing. Basie is terrific and patient with the host. Why can't television do shows like this anymore? Sonny Payne is on drums and Norman Keenan on bass. All this and for less than the price of a CD. Almost as close as you are going to get to hearing a Freddy Green solo of more than a few bars.
