5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, original Basie recordings on Decca, November 22, 2007

This review is from: Count Basie: Swingsation (Audio CD)
For some reason, the info provided by Amazon for this CD is somewhat incorrect. The title and info for the CD are correct. However, for some reason, the label company is listed as the "Jazz Heritage" Company. That's totally wrong. This Swingsation CD (as well as ALL the Swingsation CDs) is made by GRP/Universal/Decca Records. Despite the misleading info, this is official Decca product.

Ok, now on to the review. This disc provides a great remastering of the best of Count Basie's Decca recordings from the late 30's. They are the EXACT same masters as on the 3-disc complete set from Decca. But if the 3-disc set is a little too much Basie to swallow, this disc offers you a sampler of the best of the best. The liner notes provies recording dates, personnel, and other info.

All in all, if you are looking for ONE DISC to provide you with some Basie, this is the one to get. Every Basie fan knows his Decca years are his absolute best, and this is the only single disc available of the Decca Recordings. Well, the only one that's not a bootleg anyway. Check out the other Swingsation discs for other single disc Decca compilations. (The Louis Jordan and the Ella Fitzgerald are my personal favorites).
