This book has heart. Parents who care what their children read ought to welcome this one! "Count Dracula" is a warm, funny tale told in the first person by a bright ten-year-old who discovers she has ESP just in time to help save her family's cookie business -- and keep her newly single Mom from marrying the dreadful Mr. Digbert -- the "Count Dracula of the tale. This book makes excellent "read-aloud" material for the classroom. I read this book when I was a ten-year-old. It was a welcome and refreshing change after I'd o.d.'s on too many Judy Blumes and Judy Blume clones with their mean-spirited, "tell-it-like-it-is" approach. Hatchigan's writing is gentle and humorous, and her characters are warm and funny. The book made me laugh and taught values at the same time -- in a un-corny, un-preachy, subtle way. Excellent
