5.0 out of 5 stars learn about counting systems by interpreting space signals, July 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Count Like a Martian (Hardcover)
The author supposes that signals come in from Mars. Your job is to figure out what they mean. By supposing that they might be numbers, she introduces you to different counting systems that have been used on earth. (Mayan, Egyptian, Greek and Arabic among others) By the way, Martians count in Base-4. Does that mean they have four fingers?

5.0 out of 5 stars counting the stars and everything else through history and beyond, February 10, 2011
This review is from: How to Count Like a Martian (Hardcover)
This is our favorite book about numbers and counting systems. It covers counting systems from Egyptians, Babylonians, Mayans, Hindus, Greeks, computors (binary), etc. It presents a fun story for taking an historical look at counting systems and then brings us to solving a code of Beeps and Beep-Beeps that the Martains may have used - they are using base four but what is that like? What are other number sytems? We love it for numbers, counting, tallying, codes, place value and a all in story form.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mathematics, September 13, 2009
This review is from: How to Count Like a Martian (Hardcover)
This is the best book to understand math and number systems. It will help with logical thinking. Math is a universal language around the world (and maybe in the milky way too).
