5.0 out of 5 stars Great navigation through all 117 chapters!, April 8, 2008
There is no way that I could find my way in this long book of 117 chapters without the table of contents which this book has. I am reading this kindle edition of the classic while listening along with my Audible account. I purchased the Blackstone audio book narrated by Fred Williams.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete Publishing hurts the Kindle Unabridged Version, May 31, 2009
By Brian Sisco (Kent, WA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As someone who's loved delving into the story since I was 8, I was delighted to see the complete unabridged version come out in the last couple of years and then to find it for Kindle this week (with the chapter navigation). Even though I have 2 hard copies, it became my first Kindle purchase.

The content is amazing for me. It's a long read, and having the unabridged edition gets you deeper into the minds and thoughts of both the character and the author. You don't have the skips that come from having someone edit out content. It's basically Dumas' "Director's Cut". If you haven't read the story yet, it may be worth it to get one of the abridged versions, discover if you want to immerse yourself in 19th C. European customs (both of the nobility and the criminal class) and then check this Director's Cut out.

My problem is with the lack of footnotes. As with any period piece (I'm thinking about Pride and Prejudice, or Shakespeare's plays) footnotes are fascinating to me and help me to immerse myself in the times--whether it's knowing about some of the idioms, "famous" name-drops, Easter Eggs from a classical education, etc. In the (IIRC) Penguin version there are multiple "explanatory footnotes" per chapter. These are not available in the Kindle version, which I was disappointed to see. It doesn't really help to have unabridged content when there isn't an explanation for how it helps carry the story along. And I was under the impression that the Kindle has a great interface for leaving notes and footnotes and highlights: why couldn't the Kindle Version Publisher add them to this great book?
