5.0 out of 5 stars so sad they are no more, March 28, 2001

This review is from: Count to Ten (Audio CD)
Having seen frogpond in concert numerous times in their hometown of Warrensburg, MO they rocked! I remember eagerly waiting for their debut album to be released and not being disappointed once I popped the disc in. All of the girls produced a fabulous album with each song different than the next; from the poppy-jump enthralled sounds of "be" to the wistful "waiting for a friend" frogpond was awesome! I highly encourage anyone wanting to give a chance to non-mainstream band to pick up this disc.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as it used to be., April 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Count to Ten (Audio CD)
In the early 90's there was an amazing band named frogpond with a great singer(Tawni Freeland) and other great muscianswith great potential. they released their first tape titled "2%" which is probaly not even available anymore. But anyone who was around when they started has one. then as they got a little bigger art alexis from the band everclear found them and produced their first cd "count to ten" this album doesn't even compare to 2%. All art did was produce it and ruin it. He took alot of frogponds original sound. Making less of an alternative album and more of a pop album. removing feedback and other crucial parts of frogpond's sound and then fileing a lawsuit. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Little-Known Band I've Ever Heard, May 10, 1999
This review is from: Count to Ten (Audio CD)
This band is a prime example of serious talent with too little exposure. Count to Ten is a masterpiece. Angst-ridden lyrics that hit you square in the chest, combined with Heidi Phillips' almost raspy - but deeply wonderful, moving voice, make for a beautifully powerful album. Driving bass lines and serious harmony only add, never once taking away from the sound. With Heidi at the helm, there can be nowhere to go but up for Frogpond. The two songs that grab me most are "Trust?" and "Waiting for a Friend." "Trust?" is and upbeat sounding song with a great driving guitar. My favorite lyrics are "...And if I saw you everyday I'd save the seconds when I'm away to search my soul and find that piece of me I left behind with you... And if I found it I'd give it to you now and show you all the ways it's ripped apart... And even to this day you seem to have the nerve to think that this is all my fault." The way Heidi sings makes me want to apologize for something I never did. And on "Waiting for a Friend," I wish I could call her up and say - I'll hold your hand and be your friend, ANYTIME! The whole album is great, and there isn't even a hint of monotony as is usually the case with local bands. Each song has it's own splendor and brings something different to the album. Count to Ten is complete and deserves recognition. Although I was disappointed at the fact that the band was no longer all female, I have to admit that their live act (with males) didn't lack a thing. This album is a must for anyone who wants to hear an fallen angel sing to them.
