5.0 out of 5 stars brutally great
Ok i know there is an influx of the hardcore/death/metal/grind crossover bands out now a days and i gotta say that i've heard alot of them that just sucked..mainly the vocalists have to carry the band in this genre of music..the band can be great but if the vocalist can't pull the vocals then it just doesn't work...Now this band has EVERYTHING i was looking for.the vocals...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bringing Back Hair Metal
Well, almost.

Bring Me The Horizon is one of the worst things to come out of the United Kingdom these days. The band does absolutely nothing new on this album, except play a completely watered down style of music that Through the Eyes of the Dead, The Black Dahlia Murder and the like have done in a far superior matter before. The production is awful, it...

Ok i know there is an influx of the hardcore/death/metal/grind crossover bands out now a days and i gotta say that i've heard alot of them that just sucked..mainly the vocalists have to carry the band in this genre of music..the band can be great but if the vocalist can't pull the vocals then it just doesn't work...Now this band has EVERYTHING i was looking for.the vocals are amazing, highs, lows, hardcores you name it they do it.it turned out much better than i though it would..if you're a fan of job for a cowboy, faceless, i wouldnt say black dahlia because theres a hint of hardcore with the breakdowns on this cd, but if you're a fan of the death/core crossover bands..i beg you please buy this cd now.you definatly won't be dissapointed. One of the best purchases i've made in 07 and there have been quite a few bad ones that i've bought just on word of mouth..but if i worked at your neighborhood record store and you came in and requested a good metal record i would highly reccomend this one and not worry about you coming back later that day to throw a brick through the window because you didnt like it. So all i can say is Buy this record.

5.0 out of 5 stars great improvement, November 14, 2006

Bring Me The Horizon's Count Your Blessings is a major improvement from their previously released EP This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Was Made For. Some of the songs on CYB had been previously recorded live and in rough demos. The two instrumental tracks, Slow Dance and 15 Fathoms, Counting [which is also acoustic], are executed amazingly and show that BMTH aren't just five little teenagers with an electric guitar, but are also talented in the non-'br00tal' genre. I don't have any favorite tracks, because all of them are different in their own way and are all excellent.

this cd is soo much better than their last ep..and that was amazing. you should definately buy this cd. if you like this band, i would recommend with blood comes cleansing, abigail williams, and as blood runs black, as they somewhat relate to this band. and they're a few of my personal favorites =)

5.0 out of 5 stars I could make it December everyday, but you're so blind, it might as well be May!, June 11, 2010
This review is from: Count Your Blessings (Audio CD)
Love them or hate them, Bring Me The Horizon made it big with this album. "Count Your Blessings" is a modern-day slab of honest, adolescent adrenaline, complete with furious, technical riffs, pounding drums, heavy-as-ever breakdowns, and ever-quotable lyrics. "Pray For Plagues" features some incredibly technical riffs and a very catchy breakdown, a great song that made helped jettison them up the level of recognition they're at. Oli Sykes' vocals may take some getting used to, but up until that point, the music itself is still very enjoyable. "For Stevie Wonder's Eyes Only" features great lyrics that are pretty poetic, some very cool riffs and some of Oli's edgiest vocals towards the end. "Tell Slater..." features an awesome, speed-metal opening with a whammy-bar solo, and some awesome, melodic super-heavy riffs. "A Lot Like Vegas" is my possibly favorite song on the album, featuring a simple but flawless breakdown, some dimished-scale riffs and a great, passionate guitar solo, the sort of stuff to blast while cruising down the highway at night! "Slow Dance" is a nice change of pace, featuring a ballad-tempo and some slower, majestic guitars. Great atmosphere here, I wish this song was longer!
I could keep going on about the songs, but you get the idea: if you're into really heavy, but still melodic stuff, "Count Your Blessings" should indeed satisfy. A fair warning, though, "Suicide Season" sounds a lot different from this album, but if you're curious, pick that up, too. CYB is a great album, in whatever sub-genre you would want to put Bring Me The Horizon in. Regardless, for fans of this sort of stuff, it's a hands-down essential. Thanks for the time, and peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Count Ur Blessings, July 14, 2008
This review is from: Count Your Blessings (Audio CD)
actually... i liked this cd. i'll admit that it's a little emo, especially when it comes 2 the lyrics, but if you know the difference between the EP and this CD you'd know how much more mature this CD sounds. the last one sounded like a crappy garage demo. and all i can say is that is band is definitly not scene... unfortunatly its labeled that just b/c "scene" kids listen to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than most, June 22, 2007

I just discovered these guys recently, so I have not heard their previous ep. However, I'm loving this album and think this band has amazing potential. 'Pray for Plagues' is my favorite, but indeed all tracks are good. The instrumentals don't do much for me though, maybe if they were longer. One of the only complaints I would have is their use of breakdowns opened by the cookie monster growls. Don't get me wrong, they do those better than most, but in every song it does get a bit old. As young as these guys are, they are definitely going to do something. The vocalist is extremely talented for this genre, and their musical abilities are no different. I think if they keep it up and stay clear of what is popular in this genre, they will stay on top.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bring Me The Horizon - Count Your Blessings, July 20, 2011
Bring Me The Horizon's debut studio album Count Your Blessings is quite different from the albums which would follow it. Whether you would call later albums too light or this album too heavy may affect your enjoyment of this album, in a manner which largely depends on your taste for either extreme metal or metalcore and also possibly which version of the band you heard first.

If you've only heard Bring Me The Horizon's later albums you may be surprised by this record, which features no clean vocals, numerous blast beats and riffs much more influenced by death metal than on later works. The production is a lot less polished too, and there are no electronic influences or samples to be found.

The album is certainly a grower and will get better with each listen. If at first the tracks seem a little samey through out, or if you aren't used to this band playing this style, it gets better with repeat listening.

It has been said that the band are very sloppy and that the drumming is poor but all these comments I feel are more suited to the live environment than in the studio.

One further reason to dislike this album would be the angry, anti-female lyrics and large number of spiteful breakup songs which may be off putting for many. I find I can just ignore the lyrics when the vocal patterns and delivery are good, so don't have as much of a problem with this as some.

Of course, some people will hate Bring Me The Horizon no matter what, they seem to be one generation's band that are cool to hate, but for those who are willing to be open minded, this album is worth checking out.

I find this to be an enjoyable album, and listen to it fairly regularly. For me, it isn't the best album in the world but is far from the car crash I've heard it is made out to be. Perhaps a `try before you buy,' album, but if you like the band I definitely recommend that you at least try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Close Your Eyes... Pray for Plagues, August 16, 2010
This review is from: Count Your Blessings (Audio CD)
this album is simply and purely an excellent display hardcore death metal at it's best. far to many new bands in the genre do too little to set themselves apart from the rest. but where they fail, bmth succeeds. they manage to be as brutal as some of the most extreme deathcore bands, while also having a distinctive style. the lead singer is ridiculously extreme and the lead guitarist shreds. and the rhythm guitar, bass and drums combine to make an extremely brutal, suffocating texture on almost all of the songs. but while they are ridiculously brutal, they are very versatile within the genre that they choose to occupy. its not always about 'how can we make this song as fast paced and brutal as possible at all times. "pray for plagues" is an insane way to start the album, with pummeling double-bass drum and extreme low, dissonant chords and guitar riffs leading up to an epic breakdown. "medusa" ascends into a very slow and melodic guitar solo, while "black & blue" has one of the fastest, most intense shredding on the album. they are playing at a level way above there ep. but while they're very articulated i admit that some songs are rough around the edges and this band was pretty young when this album was made but the 2 most important things to me are that they make enjoyable music and they show potential. at least by my standards, this a is great death metal band and anyone who enjoys low growls, high, shrill screams and extremely hardcore, brutal rock should listen to this album.

The production is awful, it sounds like it was recorded with a muffled microphone. The members lack any decent skills and can't write a decent song to save their lives. Every riff and breakdown has been done before. Oli Sykes is horrible as a vocalist; his screams sound like a cat getting hit. The drumming is worthless; it can barely keep up with the song and ends up completely sloppy. Take a look at the lyrics, sounds like 3rd rate poetry you'd find in a choppy haired MySpace user's blog. I mean, look at this: "I will always love you, but I need pills to sleep". WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? This band obviously wants to put more effort into how their hair looks than what comes out of their music. Very shameful.

Seems like this band won't last very long, because it's just what you'd normally expect from a band like this, except far worse. Here's this decade's generation of Poison for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE MORE TIMMMEEEEE, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Count Your Blessings (Audio CD)
I've been a BMTH fan for a while now, and this cd is by far one of the greatest CD's of all time. There is no one that can scream like Oli Sykes, and the harmonics that are brought forth with the guitars are outrageously great. And yes, these are kids making this music, right around 20 years old, and they are genius's. Not to mention the lyrics are amazing.
