Save your money! All that Grant Jeffrey does in this book is rehash what has been said many times, by many others. He opens the book by telling us that he has one of the largest collections of books (over 300) that deal with prophecy. You wouldn't know it from reading his book. This review is from: Countdown to the Apocalypse: Learn to read the signs that the last days have begun. (Paperback)
It has been declared around the world that it is the end times and often if you happen to catch a television preacher, you can bet that he will say at least once that it is the last days. But what exactly does that mean? Renowned author and prophecy expert, Grant Jeffrey, tells us exactly what it means in his new book. Citing Biblical verses and prophecies he provides a clear timeline about where we are with regards to prophecy and what to expect next.

The book is divided into two main sections.

--One deals with Daniel and his history.
--The second part deals with the prophecy and how it pertains to our lives today.

In a world of uncertainty and fear, especially with the way the economy is, it is nice to know what next events are in the future. At least that is the way I felt when I read this book. The author gives approximate dates about future events that would have a major impact on society. My favorite part of the book is the fact that Jeffrey gives information about the background and key features of the antichrist. I have always wondered about this, and after reading this book, it was made extremely clear.

I especially liked the fact that Jeffrey goes out of his way to give a history of Daniel and his background. Hence, I believe that those not well-versed in the Bible will also find this book helpful since they won't have to worry about the authenticity and credibility of Daniel.

Even if you don't practice or put much stock in Christianity, there is no harm in knowing someone's thoughts on what the future might hold. After all there is a statistical probability that he might be right!

This book is highly recommended and is a definite must read for Christians since it will cement your faith and strengthen your beliefs.

Armchair Interviews agrees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Countdown To Apocalypse, October 30, 2008
This review is from: Countdown to the Apocalypse: Learn to read the signs that the last days have begun. (Paperback)
I've always loved the book of Daniel, and Countdown To Apocalypse is a fascinating study of the prophecies contained there. God has warned us that someday the world as we know it will pass away. Jesus said that no man knew the day or the hour, only God, but through His chosen prophets He has revealed information that shed light on His plans. In Countdown To Apocalypse Grant R. Jeffery lists the prophecies that have already come to pass, and the ones yet to happen. He believes the end of the age will occur in our lifetime, and he argues his case well. Daniel is one of the Bible's most prominant prophets, and this book makes fascinating reading. It belongs on the bookshelf of any reader interested in prophecy. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Historical. Interesting. Insightful. Revealing., November 17, 2008

This review is from: Countdown to the Apocalypse: Learn to read the signs that the last days have begun. (Paperback)
COUNTDOWN TO THE APOCALYPSE is an insightful and interesting study of the book of Daniel and end-times Biblical prophecy.

Grant Jeffrey takes the morning headlines and presents them in the context of Bible prophecy -how and where they fit into future events. The most modern concepts of global warming, cashless economic systems, bio-data chips and the rebirth of military engines in the former Soviet Union, China, India, Japan and other countries were foretold 2,500 years ago to a humble servant of God, Daniel.

Grant draws from the most revealing and detailed Biblical texts in Daniel, Revelation, Ezekiel and the four gospels to paint a picture of the times leading up to the second coming of Christ. He pulls together historical documents to fully explain the events which have already occurred and some which are nearly upon us.

It is fascinating to read about the "signs of the times" in which we live and to be reminded of the hope and glory of the expected end: the triumphant return of the King.

Save your money! All that Grant Jeffrey does in this book is rehash what has been said many times, by many others. He opens the book by telling us that he has one of the largest collections of books (over 300) that deal with prophecy. You wouldn't know it from reading his book. In my opinion his book is incoherent, poorly organized and offers nothing new of a scholarly nature. Far too many pages are wasted as filler that quote Bible passages chapter and verse. Yet the verses cited really don't substantiate the points he's trying to make. It's just more of the pop End Times writings that titillate, but really don't educate the student of Biblical End Times events. Jeffrey's book offers no more (actually less) than The Late Great Planet Earth, by Hal Lindsay, which was written over 40 years ago. Jeffrey does not offer one new insight to the End Times. I don't like to sound so harsh towards a Christian brother, but he is the one selling this book, not me.

If you want to read a compelling, revolutionary application of prophetic interpretation, then you must read "God's War on Terror: Islam, Prophecy and the Bible" by Walid Shoebat. This book has something meaningful to say about End Times prophecy that will knock your socks off and open yours eyes to the Second Coming. I promise you it will make perfect sense. Put all of the conventional books on the End Times on the back burner for a while and forget all of the machinations about the European Union, Revived Roman Empire, a "western" AntiChrist, and Russian invasion of Israel. Read what Walid Shoebat has to say about what empire will be revived, and from where the Anti-Christ must come. You'll be amazed because the "scales" will have fallen from your eyes.

Daniel 12:4, says, "But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end time." At last, I think the words are being revealed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, October 12, 2009

This review is from: Countdown to the Apocalypse: Learn to read the signs that the last days have begun. (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book. It gives great historical accuracy as well as information about what is happening now in preparation for the end times. It also tells you how the believer is to live before the Lord's return. Daniel in the Old Testament was a great example of how to live in spite of the circumstances around him.

There are a few minor details I disagree with such as the Anti-Christ being referred to as the "King of Babylon" and the Assyrian. I also disagree that Babylon will be rebuilt; I believe it's a reference to Rome. They're one of those things where you have to read this book and decide for yourself. Aside from those minor details, I heartily recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeffery does it again!, June 2, 2009
This review is from: Countdown to the Apocalypse: Learn to read the signs that the last days have begun. (Paperback)
Jeffery s is one of the most important figures on Christian prophecy. He has written one of the major fictional accounts of the Lords second coming and the End of Days but this is NOT fiction - this is real! This is a great book as well as a great work of Christian prophecy.
For a very compelling docudrama DVD Movie on the End of Days see:
The Final Events DVD
The movie is great because it shows CNN like news reports of what will happen during the End Days.
Both are well recommended. The movie is also good to show unbelievers as it is very powerfully convincing.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Primer on Daniel's Visions, June 5, 2009
By
This review is from: Countdown to the Apocalypse: Learn to read the signs that the last days have begun. (Paperback)
This book's title and cover look sensationalist but the actual content is sober and well-researched. The case made is that the 70 weeks prophecy in Daniel 9 accurately predicted the day of Jesus Messiahship being unveiled (Pal Sunday) from the date of the decree of the Persian King to re-build the walls of Jerusalem.

Sadly, the book does not offer a detailed calculation but Jeffrey does refer to the standard work on this theory "The Coming Prince" by Sir Robert Anderson. This referral alone is worth the book and Countdown serves as a popular primer for introducing us to deeper studies.

Occasionally the tone is polemic and not much time is given to alternative views or interpretations of key passages (e.g. Dan 9:27) where the sense is ambiguous or Dan 9:26 where the meaning (of the "flood") is incompatible with what we know about Jerusalem's last great destruction (there was no flood).

An entertaining and useful work, if somewhat unoriginal.
