COUNTDOWN TO INDEPENDENCE is a fascinating book detailing the ideas behind the events on both sides of the Atlantic that led up to the American Revolution. I have frequently returned to this book to be rewarded with great detailed explanations of important concepts that are not discussed elsewhere. This is the kind of book that should replace those boring committee-produced texts that typically are used in American history classes.

Countdown to Independence is by far the best "primer" of our journey to independence. I have used this book extensively in teaching American History - the early years. Each chapter deals chronologically with the development of people and events that would eventually lead to our founding as a country. What is very valuable is the covering of both sides of the issues. This is an excellent resource for the casual historian, researcher, or teacher.
