I sing doo wop in a Phila area doo wop group called Mid Life Crisis. I've been singing doo wop and acapella for years so I have a sense for what is good and what is not in vocal group harmony.I think Kenny Vance and the Planetones are one of the finest group harmony / doo wop singers around. There are two things that make this cd stand out. First off is the blend of their background. The second and very important to me is their song selection. While they do some songs that are pretty common (You Cheated - a hit by The Shields) they mix in some songs that I've never heard sung by other modern day doo wop groups (Twilight, orig by The Paragons, Girl in My Dreams, orig by The Charms, and Darling Lorraine, orig by The Knockouts). They give all of the songs their own styling, yet keep them true to the originals so that when you hear them you instantly remember the songs as they were sung. If you're a fan of 50s/60s style street corner singing, I think you'll really enjoy this cd.

I have 3 of Kenny's cd's now, and I love them all. This is real talent here. No studio gimmicks. No hiding behind noise from screaming guitars, unnecessary drumming etc. Kenny Vance & his vocalists bring back the real talent. He sings. His back up sings. There was a time when the ability to sing was mandatory. Kenny & his team bring that to life everytime they step up to a microphone. They can put down their instruments and just sing such harmony, you can just hear the blending beautiful harmony, and drift away. I just sit there in total awe listening. This is music at its very very best. No profanity. No noise. Just human beings using their voices with decency making real music. Thank you Kenny.

I have to say that I was not acquainted with Kenny Vance and saw him on an "oldies" show for the first time. He sounded so good that I looked for music by him and the Planotones. We love this cd and carry it with us in the car. It even prompted us to buy tickets to his live performance and enjoyed it equally as well!

This CD is one of two I have by Kenny Vance. Although my favorite is Soundtrack to the DooWop Era, this is also is good one. They have a wonderful blend and Kenny Vance has a great voice.

If you are a fan of dowop or just curious, you owe it to yourself to listen to Kenny Vance and the Planotones. His voice and style is just unbelievable. Then to realize that he is singing this well, and has been doing it since the early 1960's is just amazing. There is no one around, with the exception of Johnny Maestro that is even close to Kenny. Take a look at some of his videos on UTube and you will become a believer.

This was an excellent purchase. Saw Kenny Vance & the Planotones in Florida in February, '09 and the performance was excellent. Kenny's voice is "one-of-a-kind." His range is phenominal.
