Product Description

Do our thoughts really create our reality? Do we exist in more than one universe at once? Can it be proven that consciousness survives physical death? Hazel Courteney sets out in search of answers to these questions and others, on a quest to discover if the ‘ultimate truths’ expounded by today’s spiritual teachers have any truth to them at all.

After an incredible near-death experience in 1998 and some miraculous events that followed, Hazel felt compelled to seek out spiritual masters and leading scientists to help her to uncover what was really going on. The result is this fast-paced book – the story of a spiritual journey on which Hazel meets distinguished yet controversial thinkers who share cutting-edge scientific research and theories that lead her to some staggering conclusions. In the book she examines the growing belief that our universe is nothing but a hologram, projected by an ancient supercomputer or super-mind, and that we are biological computers operating inside a preprogrammed simulator. She considers evidence that other civilisations exist alongside ours in other space/time dimensions; explores the phenomenon of Orbs, strange spheres of light that are now appearing on digital pictures the world over; and hears from one renowned physicist what he believes happened before the Big Bang.

To complement the scientific perspective, Hazel turns to the spiritual as well. From a highly respected shaman/scientist who has spent twenty-five years learning from the ancient knowledge of the shape-shifters of Peru, she receives insight into what happens after we leave the physical body and how we can change the future. At the incredible temples of Damanhur near Turin, she finds out about time travel and how sacred geometry links our world with others. And she discovers how science can actually measure enlightenment. Ultimately, she leaves readers with no doubt about who we really are, where we need to go and why – and how much more we are all capable of than we’ve ever imagined.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Countdown to Coherence, April 2, 2011
I loved Countdown to Coherence Countdown to Coherence: A Spiritual Journey Toward a Scientific Theory of Everything and had the opportunity to interview author Hazel Courteney. I love how she weaves science and spirituality and leaves room for your own connection to the universe join into the conversation as you are reading. Courteney lets us explore the evidence found by Professor William Tiller about the coupling of the molecular physical world and the magnetic information wave level to Dr. Miceal Ledwith work with the study of orbs, to the descriptions of the community intent around the spirit of service of Damanhur. Courteney invites the reader into a new world of wonder in a beautiful way.

1.0 out of 5 stars No science - just another fanciful tale, June 6, 2011
Bitter disappointment is the best way I can describe my reaction to "Countdown to Coherence." It promised to be "a spiritual journey toward a scientific theory of everything," but in reality it's just another collection of fanciful suppositions and extreme leaps in logic (as if logic is a part of anything in this book) preached to us as absolute fact, as culled from so-called "experts" in the field of the outer-fringes of the paranormal. The first clue comes on page 6 when the author describes how she looked up and saw for the first time a woman named Claire whose eyes, she writes, radiate light and knowledge. In the next sentence the author claims that she instantly knew beyond doubt that Claire was a spiritually aware soul. Claire casually tells the author that an angel once told her that her name is Divine Intervention, and when the two meet later to discuss this grand spiritual awareness, Claire, with absolute conviction, informs the author that the universe is nothing but a big cosmic joke and we're all living in a movie that's all been played before.

The book goes downhill from there, if that's possible. Even her writing style is bad. Instead of giving us the gist of a conversation, she constantly and tediously quotes in I-said, he-said dialogue.

As someone who is a firm believer in both science and spirituality, I had high hopes that this book would actually include some occasional logic and rational intelligent thought. What we have instead is a collection of outer-fringe authorities preaching their fictional theories to the author as absolute fact and several are, incidentally, taking this opportunity to get free publicity for their own books on the subject.

If you want another book on lofty, bizarre theories about Jesus, time travel, spiritual 'walk ins' and what have you like you've seen in dozens of other books, you might enjoy this one. But if you're looking for a sound, rational examination of the truths of spirituality, take my word for it: you won't find it here.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spirit Wants to Help You, December 14, 2011
Actually as Hazel says herself, you'll be "amazed" how much the spirit wants to help you. That's the underlying message throughout this book. She makes the claim that there are other dimensions and worlds around us at all times that are comprised of various higher realms of differing frequency - essentially making up all that we would consider the spirit world. These spirits are here to help us, as long as we have pure intentions - the more pure they are, the stronger our connection to this world will be. The concept is profound yet utterly simple.

The path that she takes the reader along to convey this message is via interviews with a very diverse group of thinkers, physicists, and shamans. The result is a wild and wondrous ride that perfectly balances mainstream science, mysticism, religion, quantum physics, and common sense. Rather than one long piece of work about one author's unique concept of reality as a six-fold dimension, the innate details of the zero-point field, or whatever, Hazel presents the reader with a very broad perspective and continually asks the reader to think about their own views along the way. Certainly I found myself pausing to think during this book; sometimes for several minutes to ponder what she had just suggested. When learning about the most astounding aspects of reality, why limit yourself to one person's opinion?

Courteney does not pretend to be an expert at quantum physics, but she manages to cut through the technical jargon and tackle the subject head-on. I've read numerous accounts of the famous double-slit light beam experiment and what it means, and it never really sunk in for me. But what Hazel manages to do in the space of a couple of pages is simplify this conundrum to the point that you wonder how you didn't figure it out before.

A balanced approach is the key to all things, and this technique is what makes this book so perfect. This is the best commentary on esoteric and spiritual realms that I've yet come across. After a dozen or so books on the same general subjects, this book put me over the edge and into a different spiritual mode of thinking. A brilliant effort.

More About the Author

Hazel Courteney is an award winning, respected health and metaphysical author, journalist and speaker based near Henley on Thames in the UK. She was inspired to become a journalist in 1993, after suffering a lifetime of illnesses, which she healed by alternative means. Courteney was the UK's first Alternative Health Agony Aunt with her column 'What's The Alternative?' in the national Daily Mail.
During her late thirties she also began researching the science behind more esoteric subjects such as psychic phenomena, the power of the mind, telepathy and energy healing.
In January 1997 Courteney joined The Sunday Times, Britain's foremost broad sheet, with a weekly column, and was voted Health Journalist of the Year. After answering almost 30,000 readers' letters during five years as a weekly columnist, her knowledge grew.

In 1998 Hazel underwent a near death experience, which forced her to leave her weekly column. Her book Divine Intervention, originally published in 2000 and now republished with a new Foreword by Professor Gary Schwartz in America and the UK, tells this incredible story. The sequel to this book The Evidence for the Sixth Sense was first published in March 2005, and was republished in the UK and America in 2011. Hazel's recent spiritual science book Countdown to Coherence is also available in the UK, America and other countries. Also a/v on Kindle.

To date she has also written numerous features for various publications, regularly speaks on National Radio and has written four health books including her bestselling 500 Of the Most Important Health Tips You'll Ever Need (Cico Books) and in Feb. 2012 her new Health Cookery Book 500 of the Healthiest Recipes and Health Tips You'll Ever Need ( Cico Books) is being published.
