4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not their best
I'm a Cirrus fan... their first two albums are outstanding. This one... well, its not bad, but it is less "electronic" than I was looking to hear. Several of the tracks are great (Boomerang, Hit The Decks and Unbreakable are the best songs off this album for my money...), but I would recommend checking out Back on a Mission and Drop the Break for a first Cirrus...

2.0 out of 5 stars Did I miss something?
It just happens to be pure chance that I have run across Cirrus' CD Countefeit. Unfortunately, I only pop It in to hear "Hit the Decks, Intermission, and Straight Laid Out" which is a dissappointment. Maybe I haven't become accustomed to his style to be able to appreciate this yet or it might be that I'm searching for something else. I look forward to the past CDs for...

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, July 25, 2002

Strametto or rather James Allen seems to have a gripe against Moonshine must be a frustrated unreleased DJ I guess. The guy couldn't be more far from the truth. Cirrus have come back with a stella produced album that has seen a substantial development in their style. This album is worth the money for the track "Half A Cell" alone, you then get at least 4 more classics with no fillers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cirrus Has Found It, July 28, 2002

Long time Cirrus fan, every since they ruled the moonshine Over America Tour I have been waiting to see them live. Luckily i may get that chance because of the huge sucess of Counterfeit. This album transcends electronica to a new level. Its one of only a few albums that can make itself better with the stylings of a vocalist, i.e. beth orton to the chemical brothers. I would strongly encourage you to by this album. I still play track 11 and 10, reminding me of the old duo. All i have to say if that there live shows must be something to see, its American techno and it has arrived.

4.0 out of 5 stars I break for Counterfeit, July 4, 2002

I soon as I heard that Cirrus was coming out, I was stunned. I thought they had broken up after the last album "Back On A Mission", considering that it wasn't a good album at all. I still listen to a couple of songs on the album but it basically sits there.
About this album they made stellar come back! This album is a good solid album that is Cirrus or a breakbeat fan. This isn't a mixed CD, so if you are looking for something like that, look at DJ Baby Anne, Simply Jeff, and DJ Sandy ... The album has some vocals and more than enough breaks that will make it to the dance floor, at least I hope it does. I will say it has a lot of similarities from previous albums, meaning they electronic voices and off course the breaks, but this album gives you a great deal of funk. Not to say that the previous one didn't have it, I'm just saying this funk is a hell of a lot better. I will say that this album does need a tribute of a group that was thought to be over and is now "Back On A Mission" which is what this album should have been called, since they are back on track with this album. I live on the west coast and I hope to see Cirrus live. So Cirrus if you read this review come to Seattle, please.
One last thing before Cirrus, How 'bout a mixed break beat CD? Since your are great at breakbeats.
Anyways

5.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, November 25, 2011

OK, I only like a few of the tracks on the CD, but that's me, there is nothing wrong with the rest of the tracks. You may like all the ones I don't. The three or four I do like are fantastic.
What really cracks me up about this CD is the final song. About 30 or 45 seconds into the intro, the song has the sound of a quarter dropping onto the floor. In my car, it absolutely sounds like someone just dropped change in the passenger area. That's ridiculous of course, because cars have carpet, but it still gave me a few starts until I got used to it. Once, I played it for a buddy to see what he would do, and on hearing the noise he jerked and started looking around for the offending quarter. Hilarious!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cirrus album you really want..., November 22, 2005
This review is from: Counterfeit (Audio CD)
Mmmm...a tasty recipe of some big, funky beats and a great, smooth easy to audibly ingest voice. -And she doesn't invade every song. I love techno but this has some mainstream crossover hit capability...if the American Media wasn't so fundementally rooted in evil! Previous albums diplay a less matured yet still viable techo band. Don't believe anyone who assocites Cirrus as soundling like Prodigy. Prodigy kicks arse while with Cirrus it's more like a stern hiney patting. With the singer chic, they've added some swirling to the patting, which is nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for your trip-hop collection!, July 26, 2002

I agree with Jen Boyles (URB Magazine) review of this CD. Laura Derby's vocals pushes Cirrus into the uper level of great trip-hop/electronica groups. Great CD!!

4.0 out of 5 stars CIRR-I-US!!!, October 14, 2003
This review is from: Counterfeit (Audio CD)
GET IT? Oh, never mind! I'll just review "Counterfeit"--a masterfully done CD that was nothing like I thought it would be. The beats are wild and funky and the placements of Laura Derby's vocals on certain tracks break up the monotonony of this often innocuous style of "breakbeat"/cheerleader music. The sophisticatedly groovy, "Half a Cell," "You Are" and "Boomerang" are sure crossover hits, that is, if they can manage to get picked up by these radio stations that are overly-saturated with Top 40 garbage. Other killer tracks on "Counterfeit" are the outrageously funky "Dragon Lounge," "Intermission" and "Matter of Time." Everything else on "Counterfeit" has to grow on you, but are great songs for the gym, and for when you need that extra jolt when cleaning up the house or yard. All in all, a very impressive CD--Nothing "Counterfeit" about it!! GET IT? Oh, never mind!

5.0 out of 5 stars The guy w/ 4 stars is dead wrong, July 22, 2003
This review is from: Counterfeit (Audio CD)
This is by far their best album. "Drop the Break" was weak, "Back on a Mission" is good, but this album is amazing. It is original and at the same time extremely good, which add up to be greatness. Cirrus has taken a road to change electronic music w/ this album, and they do it well.

Awesome, awesome, awesome...
