Book Description

Counterfeits, an Art Theft Romantic Suspense

Painter Jenny Kinley has spent the last decade struggling in the New York art world. Her grandmother’s sudden death brings her home to New Mexico, but inheriting the children’s art camp her grandmother ran is more of a burden than a gift. How can she give up her lifelong dreams of showing her work in galleries and museums?

Rob Caruso, the camp cook and all-around handyman, would be happy to run the camp with Jenny. Dare he even dream of that, when his past holds dark secrets that he can never share? When Jenny’s father reappears after a decade-long absence, only Rob knows where he’s been and what danger he’s brought with him.

Jenny and Rob face midnight break-ins and make desperate escapes, but the biggest danger may come from the secrets that don’t want to stay buried. In the end, they must decide whether their dreams will bring them together or force them apart.

Ordinary women. Extraordinary adventures.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'Counterfeits' is the kind of romantic suspense novel I have enjoyed since I first read Mary Stewart's 'Moonspinners', and Kris Bock used all the things I love about this genre.  Appealing lead characters, careful development of the mysterious danger facing one or both of those characters, a great location that is virtually a character on its own, interesting secondary characters who might or might not be involved or threatened, and many surprises building up to the climax.

From the Author

Though I am now a writer, I attended the Rhode Island School of Design to study photography. I learned I didn't want to be a professional photographer, but I also learned a lot about creativity. I also got to know and understand artists in their many forms. Counterfeits was my chance to explore the world of art and artists, in an unusual setting. Jemez Springs is a real town in the Northwestern part of New Mexico. I have attended many writing retreats at Hummingbird Music Camp, where Mrs. Higgins, 94 at the time of this writing, still sometimes flings pancakes to guests at breakfast. Hummingbird was the inspiration for the children's art camp my heroine inherits. Other sites mentioned in the book, such as Battleship Rock and Soda Dam, are real. All events are fictional - as the theft of rare Rembrandt paintings brings danger to Jenny and her friends, isolated in the remote New Mexico mountains.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Actual Mystery! May 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Counterfeits actually kept me guessing! Anyone who reads my reviews regularly knows how rarely that happens. I had theories and was on the right track, but I wasn’t quite there, and I was surprised when certain facts were revealed. I love when a writer manages to do that to me. Grab Counterfeits and keep trying to guess. Be surprised like I was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner for Kris Bock January 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Great story, top-notch suspense and hot romance. There were a few times while reading I tried to anticipate what might occur, but never did get it right – undoubtedly the mark of a good plot. ‘Enjoyed the characters, particularly the strength and resourcefulness of the three young women.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good romantic suspense July 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Very interesting romantic suspense and I really like the story plot and cast of characters. This book is about a woman named Jenny who returns to her childhood home after her Grandma dies. Her Grandma ran an art camp on her land and has a worker named Rob. Rob and Jenny have met but things have changed now that they are grown up, and an instant chemistry is felt between them. That is the romance part of the book. How did Grandma die, and exactly who is her father, and how do her father and Rob know each other? This is the mystery part. The main character's thoughts were a bit redundant, but other than that the story was great and the mystery was good also. I really like the inner journey/struggle that the main character goes through about her own worth and what it means to be a success, because we have all been there!

I received this book free for a review, but this review is truly how I feel about the book

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Suspense Story June 21, 2014
By TinaR
Format:Kindle Edition
Counterfeits was a very enjoyable romance suspense. The plot was very interesting and I was completely absorbed throughout the entire story. I really enjoy reading a mystery/suspense story that can still keep me guessing when I’m more than halfway through it, and this story did just that for me. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen next something else would happen to prove me wrong. This may have been the first book that I have read by Kris Bock, but it will not be the last. I cannot wait to read more of her stories.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
