The Broader View,
By A Customer
This review is from: Counterpoint (Hardcover)
Probably the most inspirational and thought-provoking counterpoint textbook. Walter Piston notes that all music is contrapuntal to some degree. He admonishes students not to make a 'fetish' of counterpoint, and discusses appositely (if tersely) the problem of twentieth-century counterpoint. I recommend this book to all musicians, but I would probably prefer to teach counterpoint with Kent Kennan's textbook. Also recommended: PENTATONIC SCALES FOR THE JAZZ-ROCK KEYBOARDIST by Jeff Burns

Not as good as Kennan's. Also the edition and style are really old. Doesn't have the same stature as Piston's Harmony.

Never before have I learned so much in a such a brief moment of time. After 20 years as a composer in several genres of music, I have achieved a new level of understanding music and the DNA of pure divinity. This brilliant reading is a must-have for all composers and arrangers - of any age, level or background. Yes, it is classic - and there is a reason for it continuing being refered to as one.
Geir F. Happy composer and joyfully eternal student of music |
