This sequel could have been great, and in fact has a clever plot for the most part. It falls apart at the end, though. I admit, I'm a sucker for a happy ending, and grouchy when I don't get one. Still, although I admire Carole Nelson Douglas, I think the plot decayed into gibberish just as it was wrapping up. Characters start doing nonsensical things, the bad guy wins, etc. Left me with a bitter aftertaste. If you read the original Probe, skip the sequel and save yourself the hassle. [e-mail]

I liked Probe but found myself somewhat depressed at the end of the sequel. It seemed like a lot for Dr. Kevin Blake to go through for it to turn out the way it did. I really wanted to see a happier ending between Kevin and Jane. It seems like so much was lost for so little gained. I know things don't always work out the way we hope but I can't help but feel dissappointed with the ending. The fact that it was such a gloomy sort of dark story from the very beginning contributed to my misery in the end. Even the environment, the frigid cold of a Minnesota winter left me frosted in the end.

Normally I don't like books that end like this one did. However, I did find it worth my time, just like the original. I do however wish to know if there are other books along the same timeline. Let me know if you would, and keep up the great work, even if some people don't like your endings.
