countertransference,
This review is from: Countertransference and Related Subjects: Selected Papers (Paperback)
This is the most accessible introduction to psychoanalysis, even though it is actually an extension of classical psychoanalysis. In a scientific approach to schizophrenia now largely discredited Dr. Searles shows how the analyst uses his own feelings to gain insight into the past history of the patient. The insights into schizophrenic behavior atre profound, and it is tempting to revive the Freudian notion of schizoid behavior as ego fragmentation, caused by unsuccessful individuation from the patient's parents. Re-indifividuation from the analyst is demonstrated, partially. The concept of therapeutic symbiosis is introduced also, and the importance of patient healing of analyst is suggested in clinical cases.
