Beautiful book
Whether your child is a bird lover or not, this is a terrific book. It not only educates about numbers (it's nice to find a counting book that goes past 10!) but teaches so much about our backyard friends as well. Be warned, however, that this book will likely make your child insist on getting a birdfeeder!

Counting is For the Birds
After sharing this book with 2 kindergarten classes I wish to contest other reviews by saying my students loved the simple, rhyming text. The format helped my students practice numerical order and rhyming while giving just enough factual information to hold their attention. They enjoyed the illustrations and could identify several of the birds featured.

I introduced this book, teaching a pre-k/k class, during my bird unit. The students loved looking for and counting the birds. The book goes beyond counting offering information as well. The rhyming makes it even more fun as I pause to see if they can guess a rhyme to finish the sentence. The children enjoyed it so much that they would pick it for free reading time. Good pick for a math learning center as well as science.
