Counting on Calico,
By A Customer
This review is from: Counting on Calico (Paperback)
This book is wonderfully illustrated book that tells all about the behavior of calico cats and cats in general. I loved reading it. It is not a counting book, but does have the munbers 1-20 at the top of the pages.

LEARNING ABOUT CATS AND LEARNING TO COUNT TOO.,
This review is from: Counting on Calico (Paperback)
This one is indeed a counting book and covers the numbers one through twenty. That is not the strong point of the book though; although it is certainly a plus because you are sort of killing two birds with one stone here. (Not that I would ever kill a bird with a stone...or anything else for that matter; I use this only as an expression). No, the value of this book lies in the fact that it is a wealth of information about calico cats in particular and regular cats in general.
This book is absolutely running over with "cat facts." We learn how calicos are colored, how they use heir claws, how many teeth they have, what whiskers are for, how kittens learn, how old cats can get, the odd relationship between cats, insects and birds the hunting instinct of all cats and on and on. The child will gain a wealth of information in this book, and I dare say that many adults will learn and gain also. The second thing that makes this work so wonderful is the art work. The pictures are of such high and detailed quality that you and your child will almost want to reach out and touch the cats and expect to feel their fine fur. The details of other animals, background and landscape is extremely well done and a delight to the eye. This is a perfect one on one read and is certainly a wonderful book to read by cat lovers, both young and old. Don Blankenship The Ozarks

I'm not a kid and loved the book. It not only has great illustrations and is fun, but also is educational about how calicos are colored, what whiskers are for, etc.

One tail, two big eyes ... all the way up to 20 wet paw prints! This picture book combines the act of counting with cat facts; in particular, it's about calico cats colored orange and black and white. The narrator is a mouse named Willy Whiskers, though he fades away from the focus as the pages turn. What's remarkable here is Tildes' artwork. These cats are so furry, you almost expect to be able to pet them. For children, especially those with a new pet ... but quite suitable for cat lovers of all ages.

Beautifully illustrated! Very clever counting book! All the "Calico" books are favorites of myself and my grandchildren. If one enjoys cats, these are the best!
