Worth every penny,

This review is from: Country 1951-1958 (Audio CD)
This boxset is very well done. Each cd contains 70+ minutes of great country music by a vastly underrated artist. I hear Cash, Jones, Williams, but what about Robbins? He wrote alot of tunes that are equal to those artist. Hell, some of his songs are better then any of those men. I rarely like a cover of a Hank Williams Sr song, but Robbins holds his own. The fifth cd is like Beatles anthology, but before Beatles got the idea. A fun cd to listen too. Whatever price you pay for the set, its well worth it. Espeically if you love country music or any music in general. Highly recommended.

If you want all of the early Marty Robbins songs, then this is the set to buy! You pay a higher price for Bear Family products than you do for some others, but they are worth every penny! For instance, this particular 5 CD set came in a beautiful box the size of an album. There is a 50 page booklet (the same size as the box) that tells the history of Marty's entrance into the recording industry. Bear Family puts a lot of research into their records and the result is an excellent product. The music of Marty Robbins will live on thanks to companies like this.

Marty's early career!,
By "mahes" (Mississauga, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Country 1951-1958 (Audio CD)
Marty Robbins is truly one of a kind. He sang from a various styles including country of course, Hawaiian, Mexican and even rock and roll! On this box set you will hear Marty at his very best. The first CD features Marty's early country recordings from 1951-1953 and the original version of My Isle Of Golden Dreams is also included on this CD. The second CD you will hear Marty singing a few rock and roll songs, he even does a covers of Elvis's Thats All Right Mama. Marty also does a version of Little Richard's Long Tall Sally, but I don't particular care for Tennessee Toddy at all. Marty's singing can really touch you heart. This box set is a great introduction to his career and also, be sure to get his Under Western Skies box set which contains all of his western recordings.
