5.0 out of 5 stars Nice sketches, October 30, 2009
This review is from: Country Blues Songbook (Paperback)
This book contains lead sheets for dozens of traditional blues songs recorded by the giants of country blues. A lead sheet for a blues song is taken as a general outline to be interpreted at the discretion and taste of the performer.

It is a valuable book due to the generous amount of material including words, chords, and basic melody. You wouldn't really just play the melody and stop there, but use it as a way to approach and mold an unfamiliar tune. More advanced guitarists who can improvise could then create a fingerstyle arrangment on a given melody.

The lyrics are fascinating and provide helpful insight to any aspiring blues song writer. Raw, earthy, memorable writing at its finest. Highly recommended to blues lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-recommended read!, March 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Country Blues Songbook (Paperback)
To some listeners, country blues might appear as a laid-back approach to life's encounters to be merely used as a backdrop in documentaries, but behind this superfical interpretation there is a substantial message behind it. This book educates the reader with a wealth of insightful information & understanding in an intelligent, captivating manner.

Additionally, the information provided is often as fascinating as the music itself.

A must read for the serious blues afficianado!
