5.0 out of 5 stars Rating one song...
I work at a radio station that plays rock oldies. But we used to have a black gospel show in the early mornings. Unfortunately the paster who ran the show passed away suddenly. So all that music was gathering dust. I revived some for a southern gospel program I run later in the day, but mostly the music sits there unplayed.

Anyway, I've been doing some...

I would have to agree that the material was not the best, but from a business prospective it was a good move.First of all you take "this" group(Jeffery Newberry,Alfred "gino" Smith,Paul Beasley and Willie Neal Johnson)back to Tyler,Tx where the group originated and this line-up has not been seen by tyler or the world since 1979 was a treat in it's...

I would have to agree that the material was not the best, but from a business prospective it was a good move.First of all you take "this" group(Jeffery Newberry,Alfred "gino" Smith,Paul Beasley and Willie Neal Johnson)back to Tyler,Tx where the group originated and this line-up has not been seen by tyler or the world since 1979 was a treat in it's self,And for all the people who only got a chance hear Willie call Paul on record;to se him call Paul for the first time on video was a selling tool in it's self.Great business move.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Marvelous Reunion., October 22, 1998

I think Willie Neal Johnson is one of the best seasoned singers in the quartet circuit. Every project he releases showcases his love for God and gospel music. His fellow tag team partner, Paul Beasley, proves once and for all he is one of the smoothest falsetto tenors quartet music has ever produced. Listen to the title cut "Help me to be Strong" and you will see what I mean. Willie Neal Johnson's love of kids is demonstrated on the title cut "Little Boys and Little Girls". he comments that in a generation we're living in today, little children should be brought up in the admonition of God.

Anyway, I've been doing some home movie vhs to DVD conversion, along with some original movies from the material and needed something to introduce some kids (who are grown up now) and "Little Boys and Girls" was just the ticket! I weeped, the song was so perfect. I could've gone with "God Bless the Child" by Billie Holiday/Blood, sweat & tear, or whatever, but this song from the Gospel Keynotes will probably be totally alien to my grown up (and white) neice and nephew. Just obscure enough to be something special. Really seems like these gentlemen are singing from the heart (and experience).

2.0 out of 5 stars Quartet music is swiftly losing it's place in gospel music., October 22, 1998

To tell you the truth, I really don't know what to say about this CD. While it does have potential, it cannot boast of "A" quality songs. I feel that in order for this tape to reach its full accolades(many which have passed by already) I think some re-formatting and group intra-structure strength needs to be improved and even more so, maintained. My brother says you all need to stabilize. But hey, God is good, isn't he?
