From Library Journal
From Kansas to Texas, from cotton to the boll weevil, from drought to running a ranch, Helen Sewell Harbison survived the harsh life of a rancher's wife and rancher herself for 30 years in Jim Hogg County of south Texas. Written from Harbison's letters and journals and from interviews with her family and friends, this is an entertaining, yet often tragic, account of life on the Texas frontier in the 20th century. Although the story is interesting, choppy paragraphs and weak transitions disrupt the narrative. Recommended for collections in Texas and Southwest history and women's studies.
