About the Author
Miss Read was a teacher by profession who started writing after the Second World War. In additional to her novels, she has written on educational and country matters, and worked as a script-writer for the BBC. She lives in Berkshire, and was made an MBE for her services to literature.

I was surprised to learn that there was another Miss Read novel so I ordered it immediately. I'm glad that I have it, but you can certainly tell that it wasn't written by Miss Read. I didn't get that warm cozy feeling when I read it. The same characters were there, but it just didn't ring true. No one can give me that feeling like Miss Read.
