Great and real country,
By
This review is from: Country Collection (Audio CD)
This CD is one of the greatest of its kind and era. However, after listening to it one wonders "how come we do not hear more of this guy, Jerry Lee Lewis". Well, this is the mystery. Of all the country singers of the post-Hank Williams era, Jerry Lee is undoubtedly the best and the most convincing. His blues soaked delivery echoes the style that Moon Mullican, Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers pioneered. His driving self determination echoes Bill Monroe's. He has had dozens of hits and his songs have been covered and made famous by dozens of people. For example, Jerry Lee inspired Tom Jones to do "Green green grass of home" and Freddy Fender to do "Before the next tear drop falls". In addition to being the inspiration behind others to have hits (JLL was on to Kris Kristofferson songs before they ever were famous and "Help me make it through the night" was one of many Jerry Lee featured - this would be a major standard 2-3 years later), Jerry Lee also had his own big hits like "Another place another time" and "What's made Milwaukee famous". Of course, Jerry Lee also respected the heritage of country music and when in the mood sang the definitive latter-day versions of Jimmie Rodgers, Moon Mullican, Hank Williams and Jim Reeves (to name but a few) classics. This collection samples a lot of this (mixing JLL original hits, JLL originals later to be made famous by others and also JLL's 'thank you's' to those who inspired him.Jerry Lee undoubtedly is one of the finest vocalists and musicians around, and arguably the greatest living talent. This excellent collection just shows one side of his massive talents (country music). This is how country should be and that the influence of Jerry Lee does not exist in today's so-called country shows (not one JLL song was on Alan Jackson's "Under the influence" for instance, and it shows). JLL is 67 years old now, but he can still do blues and country 100 times better than any living artist half his age and that's a guarenteed fact.

The Music Says It All,

Pure class from its packaging to the sound. I would recommend EVERY JERRY LEE LEWIS COLLECTOR TO BUY THIS COMPACT DISC. IT IS A MUST FOR ANY COLLECTION. THE ARTWORK ON THE OUTER C.D. - IF YOU'RE A COLLECTOR IS BEAUTIFUL! What can I say - it's full of #1 hits yet Jerry Lee Lewis IS NOT IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME! This COMPACT DISC PROVES HE DESERVES TO BE THERE AND BILLBOARD KNOWS IT!Nothing but hits and class. The man is a legend of 66 years and you would think the Country Music Association would recognize him after everything he has contributed. The Music on the compact disc speaks for itself as well as their respective COUNTRY CHART POSITIONS!

This review is from: Best Of Jerry Lee Lewis, The (Audio CD)
This set covers a later time in Jerry's career, that being 1979,'80;'81 and 1982. The set gives the listener 3 great cuts from that time when Jerry Lee was working for Electra records and just happened to cut three wonderful albums while there. We get to experience a rowdy honky tonker"39 & Holdin'" from the original "Killer Country"ALBUM (not to be confused with the more recent compliation) the bitter sweet "Over the Rainbow" (yes,THAT Over the Rainbow) from the same album, and the old Roger Miller hit which Jerry took to the counrty chart tops, "When Two World's Collide" from the album by the same name. Its a great honky tonk tune too! These cuts are superb! There is a Warner Brothers cd out that combines all three Electra works, "Jerry Lee Lewis","When Two Worlds Collide" and "Killer Country" and it is simply wonderful! It isn't offered on Amazon, though they probably could get it. This one will do but the other is SOOOO MUCH MORE!!!
