I bought this hat for my pre-teen daughter for dance. The item said new. It might not have been worn before, but someone intentionally tried to get RED ink stains out of the hat! When I emailed the company, their reply was "it's new whether you buy it from us or sitting on the shelves at Walmart". They did offer a new hat, but I didn't have time for it.

It also was WAY too big for normal adults!
